Take heart JavaBrain. I think that as long as the kid gets nurturing and knows she is cared for, that's the best you could give her. My folks weren't around a whole lot when I was growing up - they were working - sometimes multiple jobs, or they had their own things going on. But the time my sister and I spent with each of them was special and we always knew that they loved us. And I know I gained a pretty strong sense of independence and self reliance. Thanks for pointing to the silver lining, Hampster. This discussion caught my attention and impressed me. It's nice to take a break from the mud-slinging (amusing at times but counter-productive most of the time) and look at the big picture from a more mature point of view. Thanks guys!

I agree that we will continue to evolve to some degree. It only makes sense. I saw a program on the Discovery Channel a few months back that discussed this. Basically saying that certain physical features that are considered "more attractive" will become more common. The example they gave is the "baby face" - we are generally more attracted to people with a round face and younger looking features. I would like to see humans without excessive body hair (or some body hair altother)

Davad70 - I saw Mulholland Drive a few weeks back. I think I had to stop trying to figure it out before I came up with any answers. Good flick, but next time I see it, I'm taking notes. Saw "Domestic Disturbance" Friday. It was the most predictable movie I've seen in a long time, but time spent looking at Vince Vaughn is never truly wasted.

I'm buying into the theory of evolution - it only makes sense. But our conscious thought and our conscience set us apart from all (or all I can think of) other living things. For religious folks, this could be the point where evidence of a higher power really comes in.

I'm more in Doreen's and berzerka's camps here. I've always thought regret was a waste of energy (same with jealousy), save for what you have to learn from your mistakes. The great think about mistakes though is that you get to overcome (hopefully) or cope and test yourself.
