I prefer to start with at least one bonus tile on my planet, and not in a part of the map where there's no nearby stars.

That is irritating have the Torian flagship parked next to my homeworld. I would like something like Civ III's "Withdraw or declare war" message. But generally, I would just buy the ship from the aliens. Then make a point of conquering them with it.

Colonize a class 5 or so, take population from planets with low approval rates and fill it to capacity. Fill everyslot with econ improvements (either build a factory to make it go faster or buy them outright). A couple minor planets producing nothing but money helps alot. Research moral improvements, too. Higher moral means you can charge more taxes. You can also divert most of your empire's spending into socai production and crank out economic improvements faster than

If they're close to me, I drain them of their techs then conquer them. If they're not, I'll trade with them heavily, then milk the cash back out of them.

I usually leave it to the AI. I let my influence cause a rebellion or trade them for it, so I get it all nice and built up.

You don't have to paste over an exsisting race portrait. You need a 256x256 png file at 24 million colors. Call it "RaceImage__" __ being a number higher than 59.

I'm playing the Iconians right now. I spent their remaining points and now they're pretty good. +10 Economy (default) +20 Research (default) +15 Morale +10 Soldiering +10 Social Someothers I can't recall.

I try to have a colony in every 2nd system just for influence and ship range. Besides, you never know which planets have great tile bonuses or random events which increase the PQ.

Well, in Galciv 1 I've always propped the minors up- for trading partners, proxy wars, and to make sure the other races don't get their homeworlds (which are usually decent). But I would like to be able to spy on them.

I have the latest firefox. it works fine for me. Maybe you have an anti-spyware extension running and it's interfering with your ability to save log-in cookies.

My only computer is a laptop. It's a 2 1/2 year old Presario. Fast machine: 2.66 Ghz with 768 (512 + 256) memory, but the graphics card is crap. So i'm glad it'll work for me. I couldn't buy it any other way. CKayote@gmail.com
