I've got the same problem with 8.1. In addition, I'm hoping that the startup problem will be fixed on the next release as this persists in plaguing me as well. Finally, Bins will not run at all after the upgrade to 8.1 Will post about that little annoyance separately...

After a couple of years of VERY happy use of EFD, I've had to uninstall it. I use a 16 bit application for some of the data analysis that I need to carry out for my PhD and EFD conflicts with it so that no Open/Save As/Browse to Folder dialogues will appear. Setting EFD to ignore the application's exe and dlls does not work (even after rebooting). I'm running WinXP Pro Sp-2 (fully patched). The 16 bit application is for 3D Morphometric data analysis. It's called Morpheus and can be foun

Er... call me thick, but the original poster specifically stated that he does not want to install and use Stardock Central! I'm in the same boat - at the moment I don't have any of my Stardock software installed because I was only actually using one application (Enhanced File Dialog) out of Object Desktop, ObjectDock and CursorXP. I got fed up of having a much larger application installed (and as far as I could tell, running processes in the background) to keep up to date with an application tha

Interesting... I had this problem with early releases of WB5 but it was solved later on in it's development. I don't have AW loaded at the moment but will test this out later with AW 1.9 and WB6.

I'm having this problem too, but the system tray icon displays just fine and the websearch docklet works as expected as well... I don't actually USE the start menu button, but it would nice to know it works on the offchance that I ever decide to disable my taskbar!

Like rrawlins, I run the latest beta of WindowBlinds and the latest version of Zone Alarm and have no problems whatsover. I do NOT have any apps excluded in my WindowBlinds configuration. Further, I haven't seen any conflicts between ZA and SpyBot, PerfectDisk, Diskeeper (run PD on my laptop and DK on my wife's), or Acronis TrueImage 9.1...

Well, I've been on my computer all day - over 10 hours so far (couldn't sleep!) and have rebooted a number of times. So far, with the beta off my system, I am experiencing none of the issues reported above. Tonight when I get home from work or perhaps tomorrow, I will install the latest full release of WB (5.1) and see what happens. I anticipate that the problems will not reappear, but we'll see.

As a reminder, I was running the beta under WinXP Pro Sp-2 fully patched. 12/11/06 - I uninstalled WB 5 beta and rebooted. Reinstalled the beta and rebooted and can report the following: Post first reboot after install: Application popup: Explorer.EXE - Application Error : The instruction at "0x04d92e88" referenced memory at "0x04d92e88". The memory could not be "read came after selecting "Outlook (2003)" from the quick launch bar. Second reboot explo

I am running the beta under XP Pro Sp-2 on a Centrino notebook with 64MB shared video graphics memory and a gig of RAM. I am experiencing the explorer.exe issue mentioned above. The really weird thing is that the beta ran flawlessly for about three weeks - I didn't notice any issues with explorer. I was messing around, trying out Vista skins yesterday, and decided I wanted the overall skin from one and the taskbar from another. When I hit "apply" my system hung and I had to do a cold boot. This

AFAIK, it's one of the default additions to the tabbed dock - assuming you're running the Pro version...

Instead of having a cutdown version of Windowblinds as "shareware" for people to test, [Stardock] need to have a full version with a 15-day "trial key" on it. That way people get the idea of what the FULL version will do for them and be much more impressed then they would otherwise be with the shareware version. After the 15 days, the software would either cease to functio

Ah... Just as you described. Actually, I have tons of RAM so this isn't really an issue. It's just something that I've gotten into the habit of checking whenever I install new/upgrade software. Thanks for the explanation.

I installed the latest beta of ObjectDock to see how it performs and did the following: Shutdown the main dock (leaving only the tabbed dock) removed taskbar and system tray tabs removed all docklets removed start menu redirected a couple of shortcuts to my favoured apps (Take Command for the command prompt and PSP X for graphics) Closed it and restarted it: RAM usage varies between 12 and 15 MB. This is a vast increase over 1.3, isn't it? With 1.3 installed, m

Hi all, I am in the same boat - have tried every server that has been available over the last 12 hours (6 total) with no joy. Have also tried clearing temp folder with no luck, either. odp.log indicates that there is a mismatch in the installer's file size: -- [Installation] --------------------------------------------------- Download: C:\Program Files\Stardock\SDCentral\data\public\odp\beta\odp.xml 1 Load: C:\Program Files\Stardock\SDCentral\data\public\odp\beta\odp.x

EFD can't modify office dialogs as they (Office) are different from regular windows dialogs so, no, they are incompatible, unfortunately...

Yes, I have the same problem here (and *think* that I posted about it elsewhere sometime ago). I have Office 2003 Pro installed and with Enhanced Dialogs installed the MRU list works from one location only: the Start Menu. At every other location (the TaskPane, MRU list at bottom of Open/Save dialogs, etc.) MRU lists are greyed out and empty. Also, the MRU dropdown in and Enhanced Dialog doesn't work either! What's annoying is that it makes no difference whether or not I have

Glad to help, and hope this is in fact helpful in solving the problem. It goes without saying that just because WinPatrol and SpywareBlaster "play nice" with WB5 for me, it doesn't mean that they will for you... If removing Avast doesn't work, try uninstalling those two as well. I'd go Avast then SpywareBlaster, then WinPatrol, as WinPatrol is the least likely to be blocking writes to your registry. On that note, SpywareBlaster is actually the most likely of the three to be blocking

Hi Bascule, I beat my head against a wall with the same issue for weeks and finally tried uninstalling, rather than simply disabling, my anti-spyware app (Tenebril's SpyCatcher, which I had as part of the GhostSurf 2005 Platinum suite - meaning that I had to uninstall the entire package) and THAT did the trick. Note that as soon as I tried to reinstall GhostSurf after getting WB5 installed properly, the problem you've outlined returned. Fortunately, I've licenses for a number of diffe

I've rebooted a number of times and I have the same problem with the system settings dialog here (WinXP Sp-2 latest updates and WB 5 enhanced latest beta running on a first generation Centrino notebook with 1 gig RAM) - specifically, there is no way to select the options in that window. The boxes simply remain blank. I am having other, related, problems though. First, running either the configuration utility OR the configuration wizard works fine until I hit "save and apply" at which point Windo

cnlevo: Sorry about my garbled message earlier... I had meant to write that if you have teatimer enabled, first try disabling that, rebooting and then re-installing WB5. If that didn't work, uninstall both apps, reboot and try reinstalling WB5 and see if it's still there on subsequent reboot. You get the picture. As it stands, and as Corky notes, if you don't really care that much about the per-pixel blending you can happily stay with 4.6 until a later build of WB 5 is released (and works on you

Just dropping in to note that excepting RegDefend under WindowBlinds 5 latest beta was successful in getting the checkboxes in that app to appear correctly. No other problems to report with respect to checkboxes in other apps...

No,not really... Seriously, though, I think the point to be made is that many of us have been in the same position as you and have resolved our problems and have done so within a basic framework of carefully documented attempts to identify the conflict (and it is a conflict with other apps in my experience) and without resorting to flamiing. I agree that it is frustrating. However, I don't see how, with an app that integrates itself into windows to the degree that Windowblinds does one can hold
