Racial Points: Planet Quality

GC1 calculation needs update

The racial pick PLANET QUALITY offers two choices:
3pts). Green Thumb +5% quality bonus -- one bonus tile for every twenty
8pts). Magical +7% quality bonus -- one tile for every fifteen

The new GC2 tile system povides about ten tiles for a worthy planet, 12-16 for a good planet, and 19-26 for an excellent planet.

It seems to me that these values aren't useful enough to try this racial pick, and so I offer this as a possible thought for upping the percentages:

For Green thumb (3/10pts), give the player one extra tile for every ten; (+10%)
For Magical (8/10points), where the player has spent almost all their race points to achieve this one special ability, give the player two extra tiles for every ten (+20%)

I think that the way the bonus is currently expressed is by giving more upgradable tiles for green thumb and and magical.

One thing that I see about the game that I like is that while planet quality is nice, I have had some powerful low PQ planets due to bonus tiles and some high PQ planets that are hard to get cranked due to no bonuses.

In many of my games my top production planet started as a PQ 7-8 and became the Mfg Capital cranking out ships nearly every turn.

I still have a lot to learn about the game but it is obvious that regardless of PQ, over expansion will be an issue that it never was in GCI

I agree with you, their really is no reason to take this pic at all. Especially at THAT many points.

Franco is right though, PQ doesn't mean too much if you have certain bonuses. That is besides the point though.

Anglewyrm is dead on - this needs to be recalculated to fit the change in design for GC 2

Agreed.

I havent played the game yet... but a thought.

If before it gave you one tile for 20, or 1 tile for 15.. and you want to switch it to 1 tile for 10, and 2 tiles for 10.. that may work with the lower PQ planets..but what happens when you find a higher PQ?

I mean..if you get a planet that has 20... you will either have 2 extra tiles..or 4 extra tiles.. that seems to be a bigger bonus than the designers originally intended this to have.

So how about if you switch it to:

Green Thumb: 1 extra tile on a planet with 10 or more.
Magical: 2 extra tiles on a planet with 10 or more.

That way.. it doesnt become uber on a planet with 20.

One PQ 24 planet doesn't = "uber" anything... but it certainly would be the appropriate level reward for a racial trait that takes up 80% of your racial trait points! Read that again... 80%.

i agree, the cost is much too high for the modest advantage it gives you in planet quality.

I would almost say instead of having the pick affect pq have it affect the number of tiles with bonuses but that would take to much coding so close to release
