Help!! WB is messing up my computer!! (with screenshots)

I don't know what to do anymore... I tried everything!

I have been using WB5 for about 4 days now and I haven't gotten any types of errors, whatsoever, up until a few hours ago.. I didn't even do a thing! I was using Mormegil's ChristmasTime theme (and ran it for 4 days without errors), then when I decided to come to WinCustomize.com to browse for new Objects and such, my computer hung up on me! I don't know if that had anything to do with my visiting wincustomize.com, but it couldn't have been a virus or a spyware because I just performed a general maintenance on my computer a few hours earlier (and I have been doing that since January).. Then I restarted my computer using the button on my CPU and when I entered my Windows XP account, the entire "start" bar below (the whole thing, not just the start button, but the entire bar -- sorry, i have no idea what it's called) didn't even show up! The only thing that showed up was the digital clock, and that's it.. Ok, hold on.. I don't know where I'm going anymore. I think it's better if I just show you a screenshot and maybe you can just help me out and tell me what's wrong (also, I tried uninstalling+re-installing WB5, but apparently, that didn't fix my problem)..

That's my whole screen.. No "start button" and the entire "bar" at the bottom of the screen is messed up! WB also got rid of my Windows XP theme.. I tried accessing through desktop/right-click/bah blah but then that didn't work.. all it's showing me is nothing (sorry, I'm really, really sleepy and i have been trying to fix this problem since 5 PM (and now it's about (9:00).. so, that should explain why my grammar is skewed. i haven't even eaten yet!) I tried righ clicking on "My Computer" and going to "Manage" / "Services" / etc. (as one poster explained in another thread), but that didn't work -- it didn't bring my Windows XP theme back..

Please help me! I am totally clueless about what's going on! And once again, excuse the grammar. I'm typing this up real fast because I'm about to collapse.. I really hope you guys can help me! Please!

This issue is caused by the cracked version of WindowBlinds.  Don't run the cracked version of WindowBlinds and this won't happen.

Please don't assume that pirated software is causing this bug. I paid for Stardock, WindowBlinds and some other addons as well. I am having the exact same problem. I was afraid that virus was suspect, but now that I've seen this thread, I am sure that is not the problem. I ran the update and hoped it would fix it but no problem. This started happening to me after I installed the Christmas theme as well... Very disappointing. I really don't want to reformat my system... Another quirk is shortcuts changing, my IE shortcut began pointing directly to the Internet Options dialog and when my start bar disappears intermittently, I have to do ctrl-alt-del then run explorer. Running explorer began not responding correctly, loading the explorer file manager, but not reloading the task bar and start button.

This definitely does not sound like a WB problem.....perhaps the fault of your "other add-ons", or some other program.....I do not believe that WB interacts with the shortcut addresses in any way.

All I can say is that WB5 is a serious piece of S*&% beta! I can't believe Stardock suckered all of us into sinking $20 into this unstable, untested piece of s&%*!!! With WB5 installed, video does not render in any program other than the worthless WMP10, and since 90% of the stuff I do on the computer is video related, in essence WB5 renders my computer unusable. I can't believe that in another thread someone actually blamed a bug in Windows for this problem! WB is built to work with Windows, not the other way around! DUH!
I'm back to using visual styles where my computer can actually be used for something other than a Stardock testing station. Thanks for robbing me, Stardock!

WB5 works just fine on this PC , alternate video players and all
I use Media Player classic , and the K-media codec pack for almost all of my video playing needs
That and WinDVD work perfectly fine on here

MeFirst: Sorry, but the problem IS with the OS.  It seems a bug in the OS is exposed by using a specific feature of the OS.  In this case its having anything per pixel on screen (ObjectDock, WindowFX shadows, WindowBlinds 5 per pixel skins, DesktopX objects, Konfabulator widgets etc etc)

We are looking to see if there is a way we can workaround this, but in the end the problem isn't actually caused by Stardock.  If you tell the apps to not use overlays then there is no problem.  The fact that WMP works suggests that WMP does things differently.

And if I were just like you I'd shut the hell up because I can't offer any worthwhile input. You obviously have no usable knowledge here, after all, you use media player classic and a codec pack, that speaks for itself. Ignorance is bliss.

Anyway, to someone who actually has a brain, Neil, all I'm saying is that if a piece of software is written to work so extensively with the OS like WB5 does, things like this shouldn't happen. Now obviously, nothing can be perfect, I mean, look at the OS we are dealing with here anyway, but If you're blaming it on opening up a bug in the OS by "having anything per pixel on screen (ObjectDock, WindowFX shadows, WindowBlinds 5 per pixel skins, DesktopX objects, Konfabulator widgets etc etc)" then why does this problem not occur while using ObjectDock, Yahoo widgets, etc., only with WB5?

The problem DOES happen with those apps.  We get reports of overlay issues with ObjectDock all the time.

I´ve searched for some information....the Part about Headshoto and his fight with c242 they said something about the timer...But some mnessages of Hshoto were deleted... so I searched the net for headshoto found some forums where he had some helpful posts about the fine fine Software WindowBlinds 5...

I have been having the same problem. I own WindowBlinds as part of ObjectDesktop. Lately I have been having all kinds of problems with WB. One that keeps coming back is the inability to select menus. I am sure you all know when you open a menu (File for instance), the entry higlights depending on where the mouse pointer is. Well I lost the ability to highlight any of those entries, but not just highlight but also click. Terminating explorer.exe and restarting it seems to be the only solution to gain functionality back. I tried reinstalling WB, so I guess Ill see if any of my issues clear up.

ALSO one thing I found interesting is ZoneLabs most current of ZoneAlarm Pro, interferes with WB and explorer.exe, causing them to lock. What are the chances that those of you with the problem mentioned above are using ZAP?

all you need to do is blame bill gage cos this isn't included to windows. THIS REALLY SHOULD BE INCLUDED - wtf - it's 2006 and you gotta pay for this thing? (release after release + all other problems) microsoft belong to 80's.

On the one hand, I agree.  I think Windows should come with at least CursorXP free and a years subscription for WB.  One the other hand:


it's 2006 and you gotta pay for this thing?
