Help!! WB is messing up my computer!! (with screenshots)

Help!! WB is messing up my computer!! (with screenshots)

I don't know what to do anymore... I tried everything!

I have been using WB5 for about 4 days now and I haven't gotten any types of errors, whatsoever, up until a few hours ago.. I didn't even do a thing! I was using Mormegil's ChristmasTime theme (and ran it for 4 days without errors), then when I decided to come to WinCustomize.com to browse for new Objects and such, my computer hung up on me! I don't know if that had anything to do with my visiting wincustomize.com, but it couldn't have been a virus or a spyware because I just performed a general maintenance on my computer a few hours earlier (and I have been doing that since January).. Then I restarted my computer using the button on my CPU and when I entered my Windows XP account, the entire "start" bar below (the whole thing, not just the start button, but the entire bar -- sorry, i have no idea what it's called) didn't even show up! The only thing that showed up was the digital clock, and that's it.. Ok, hold on.. I don't know where I'm going anymore. I think it's better if I just show you a screenshot and maybe you can just help me out and tell me what's wrong (also, I tried uninstalling+re-installing WB5, but apparently, that didn't fix my problem)..

http://tinypic.com/ionkf5.jpg

That's my whole screen.. No "start button" and the entire "bar" at the bottom of the screen is messed up! WB also got rid of my Windows XP theme.. I tried accessing through desktop/right-click/bah blah but then that didn't work.. all it's showing me is nothing (sorry, I'm really, really sleepy and i have been trying to fix this problem since 5 PM (and now it's about (9:00).. so, that should explain why my grammar is skewed. i haven't even eaten yet!) I tried righ clicking on "My Computer" and going to "Manage" / "Services" / etc. (as one poster explained in another thread), but that didn't work -- it didn't bring my Windows XP theme back..

Please help me! I am totally clueless about what's going on! And once again, excuse the grammar. I'm typing this up real fast because I'm about to collapse.. I really hope you guys can help me! Please!

This issue is caused by the cracked version of WindowBlinds.  Don't run the cracked version of WindowBlinds and this won't happen.

ok thats what you do why dont you ban c242 instead of me???

Well, I'd certainly buy it if I knew someone with a credit card around. Problem is I don't, and I'm not even 18 yet, so the only kind of money transfer I can do is a normal bank transfer - which is a) more expensive because of additional fees and b) not an accepted way of paying here anyway...

But it's okay, I don't want to whine here or anything. Basically I just wanted to mention that there's no reason to use the illegal warez copy because the trial does the job well. Hell, some programs don't give you any trial at all, so be grateful!

I'm posting this here because some people who have actually bought the software claimed to have issues

haven't seen that (except for the few who didn't fully clean out the warez version first)

have seen quite a few people claim to have bought it, but didn't

I found him funny...4 real bring him back you should ban others also i guess this would be fair...

what does this mean? in other words?

in other words:

I'm not so sure it was posted to be helpful to people who legitimately own WB5.

#69 (CRasH180) said it, for example. So the statement that only illegit users had this problem definitly *wasn't* true. It was caused by an antivirus software, okay, but then again: I bet there's not just a problem with Panda, but also with other programs. Computers are damn complex and no one can claim that something works fine anywhere.
Of course it *should* - but I'm a programmer myself and often experienced that computers aren't always so logic.

problems with AV have nothing to do with setting the clock back
Reply #187 Top
Not? I certainly understood him as if the problem occured just when it occured for the warez users, too. So the additional copy protection or whatever else it is isn't compatible with Panda, but without it (meaning before 16th of december), they work together just perfectly.

And even if it was any different - just because people who bought WB5 don't post here doesn't mean that they don't have a problem. There might be even other programs out there that don't work together with WB5, but here on the forum, those users are immediately told that they're using a warez copy... and might think that if they ask for a solution, they might get sued or something.
It's just a possible scenario, but isn't it better to provide a workaround for these people?

If you have a program that doesn't work with WB5, you report it with the system information & while waiting for an answer you exclude it in per applications.

So far the only ones I seen told they are running warez are those who post the system info showing they running it. Others claiming to have this issue with a legitimate paid version have failed to contact Neil as requested. Why? Don't they want their paid product fixed? As far as thinking I might get sued if my taskbar went black. Bulllshit. If Neil or anybody else told me I was using warez and it's now my problem...I would literally be kicking some ass since I bought mine from Stardock.

It's not about excluding it in per applications. If you knew a bit more about how computers work, you'd know also that some programs - especially AV scanners - put themselves very deep inside the system. Just like WB5 does by the way, by replacing Windows' dll files with their own.
It is only natural that when two progras are very deep inside the system, they might think that only *they* are their themselves - and so try something in this "deep space" that works without other modifications, but doesn't *with* them. And anyhow, how the hell should the Panda programmers have thought of WB and vice versa?
This isn't about a skin not working correctly on a program, but about skins in general not working because of Panda around, for example. And you can hardly exclude Panda from somehow noticing the changes that were made to the system and just working like it would on a non-WB system.

As far as the screenshots and desriptions go, the problem with Panda is just the same as with warez copies. That's why I put the info there, and that's it. Won't argue any further about it, and again: feel free to delete it if you believe it's too dangerous and only something that warez users need. I'm going to bed now, anyhow.

Let all this be a lesson to all the thieves out there, if ya want quality then pay for it, its well worth it.

if u can't afford things, then u can't have it... unless u steal it... which is what ur doing with warez.. no matter what the reason is... its still not right to use warez.. whether u can or cant afford.

if there was a machine that spit out ferrari replicas for free, are you not gonna take one? you couldn't afford it anyways, and weren't gonna buy it anyways, so it's not hurting ferrari. but ferrari of course doesn't want you to have free ferraris, so they make parts of the car hard to copy. someome else comes along and tells you how to get around that and gives you a tool to do so. but i guess you stick with your 1980 pinto anyways?

Give it a rest.

It's a pathetic analogy, anyway.

I think the question of whether copy protection works has been solved.  WindowBlinds 5 sales had its best day ever in the 24 hour period that the crack failed.  It was an even better sales day than the day it was first released.

So your analogy, which has lots of other issues, fails the basic premise -- people DO buy stuff if they can't get it for free.

that's so lame

not in my experience. both as a pirate and, like i said, a devoloper. (actually, i take that back, i think maybe three or so people have paid for my software after not being able to use a warez copy. but compare that to the number of people who don't buy and it's insignifigant). but it's obvious none of us are gonna convince the other side of anything, so we might as well give it a rest. i could discuss the topic all day, but i don't think it's suited for this forum. i'm really surprised the thread hasn't been locked, but i respect you guys for at least letting some of us vent over it.
