AI Comparisons

Civ4 vs GalCiv2

Has anybody played both games yet?
Given my problems with Civ4 I can't comment, but was actually hoping to know how the AI's compare. I know GalCiv is still in BETA, but none-the-less it would still be interesting to know.
I know with GalCiv the AI was Multi-threaded, which is revolutionary over the normal scripting AI's. So in theory will GalCiv's AI be stronger? I know I may be talking rubbish, so please do hesitate in correcting me.

Are you asking for a comparison of Civ4 AI and GC2 AI? oO

What's the diffrence between multi-threaded and normal scripting artificial intellegence?

I played both games.

Yes I think the AI in Galciv II will be stronger.

I think Civ IV's AI is multithreaded too now.

The A.I in CIV4 has a hell of a lot more to do, so it's not a fare comparison.

the civ 4 ai will also be moddable with the SDK

Will someone answer my question?

Hmmm...interesting. I know you once spoke of what exactly multithreading was all about in some review / preview / article of GalCiv1.
Never read anywhere about Civ4's AI being multithreaded, but thanks for the heads up.

Thrack* ...Brad gave a nice idea of what multithreading was all about if memory serves...

Ok... which forum is it in? Do you remember the name of the topic?

I believe Draginol is Brad. Correct me if i'm wrong. The following is what he had to say at this link on Multithreading:

Q: What’s so special about the GalCiv AI?

A: The AI is multithreaded. What this means is that while you are taking your turn, the computer players are generating their strategies. That’s why there is no “please wait, computer players moving” screen when you hit the turn button. They’ve already calculated much of their moves. The only thing you have to wait for is the actual moving of units on the map.

The real benefit though is that it gives computer players much more time to “think” about their strategies. It means we can implement much more sophisticated strategies for them so that they play more intelligently.

None of this means that the game is “harder” to beat. But what it does mean is that we don’t have to dump tons of free money or whatever to the computer players in order for them to be competitive. They can play the same game you’re playing. We think many players gain a certain satisfaction knowing that when they’ve destroyed an Economic Starbase that it really did hurt that player. Most games I play I have to wonder whether blowing up some key building or unit really affects the AI or not. But in GalCiv, there’s no doubt because it’s playing the same game you are.

The AI are very good in both games.

How do you figure? What do you think the Civ IV AI is doing that the GalCiv AI doesn't have to do?

Also a side note...am I correct in saying the GalCiv's AI DOES NOT cheat?
I know the developers said Civ's AI does cheat on the more difficult levels.

The A.I in CIV4 has a hell of a lot more to do, so it's not a fare comparison.

That's a bit of a statement to make. I figure that both are roughly doing the same thing.

PS Thanks for the link with the explanation of multithreading

Following on...
I remember reading somewhere where the GalCiv AI was said to be unique in the sense that each race has a unique AI, rather than making a general AI and scripting different profiles for each race.
I wanted to know if any could expand on this.

The A.I for Civ4 has to figure out colony points and have workers build improvments.Civ4 also has naval invasions, ground invasions that require siege weapons, air war, etc. It also has various terrain for the a.i to consider. This makes warmaking a lot more complex for the A.I do do efficiently.

Galciv2 just has planets with space around them.
