What is Art?

Anyone? What is your definition of art? Your very own personal view...

awareness is not definition enough? Depending on your religious/philosophical/spiritual point of view, the tree mentioned earlier in this thread could be art-aware.

If you are a God-loving Christian, your definition could be: Only the human being, having a soul, can be aware, therefore only humans can be art-aware.

However, if you are more of an agnostic and you have the belief in reincarnation, your definition could be: The human being is not the origin of the soul, the soul is a collective of all things living; therefore all living things can and are art-aware.

I think what your question is really meaning is this: "What does it take to be an art critic?"

What does it take to be an art critic?

For the official term it takes years of studies i suppose on a variety of cultures and getting to know all forms of arts to have the right to be a critic. Unofficially speaking everyone has the right ot be critique based on his current knowledge and experience. Moreover if we extend this to the awareness matter i believe all living beings have the ability to recognise something that is art for them. That is irrelevant to culture or belief or philosophical system of ideas and concepts. It's a matter of taste! All living beings have urges and protogenic insticts thus they have the ability to recognise that something is good, bad, tasteful, ugly. Maybe not to the extent humans can conceive the world, but in a more primitive way. So all things are able to be art-aware. What do you think?
