According to the dictionary:

The conscious production or arrangement of sounds, colors, forms, movements, or other elements in a manner that affects the sense of beauty, specifically the production of the beautiful in a graphic or plastic medium.

As music is the space between beats, art is the space between strokes. The rhythm of light and dark played in sequence across a canvas / screen. This is only one type of art.

Self-expression. Visually, orally, written, and/or musically.

But that's me. I more or less tend to fall back on "I may not know what's art, but I know what I like."

I would be hard pressed to call 'myself' an artist. I usually use music as a medium, but since my spinal fusion I have been unable to sing, so I stopped playing and recording. Unfortunately, that's why you all have been subjected to my postings. I've kind of fallen back on 'visual' art, which I liked but never developed before I got into music. Now if I could just figure out how to make a WB....

My definition: (Lantecsters)
Anything that elicits an positive emotional response via one of the senses.......

See: Visual art is what we have here.
Hear: Audio art is music vocal and instrumental and can be staged or produced sound, such as a setting which could have wind chimes and a water feature etc.
Touch: Little tougher to define. Textures is one way. Acupuncture and massage would possibly qualify.
Taste: At one time my favorite form. My wife is a master artisan. Diabetes runined it for me.
Smell: Like touch it's hard to say that's art, but when someone does it, you know it. The easiest thing to point at is perfume. I suppose those that create them could qualify.

So when a guy flips me off on the way home, it's art? I know what you are saying, HG, but there should be a higher standard on it, in my opinion. I guess I am not wise enough to know what that standard is, though. If art is really that subjective than anything can be art, depending on how it is viewed and what went into its creation. Or does that even matter?

Art is existentialist....if you don't 'like it'...then it likely fails as expression...or communicating an 'idea', so is therefore not 'art'.

To you.

Art requires 2 things....the 'object' and at least one 'observer' [audience].

If it's audience fails to appreciate it then it's only art in the mind of the author....

Meaning the bird waving at me may very well be "art"

art is takeing something and makeing it something it is not.
like takeing words and arangeing them into a poem or takeing diferent colors and makeing them look like a sunset or the notes of a scale becomeing musical melody. when you can do this with out a set of plans, instructions or a guide you have become an artist.
