Why Is Jon Stewart So Funny?
I don't *agree* with him, and yet I can't turn away...

Well, I have got to say, as a card-carrying Republican and a quite conservative person, I have a guilty pleasure. I think that The Daily Show with Jon Stewart is one of the funniest shows I have ever watched. Consistently the headlines knock me right over with their ability to skewer the day's events. Jon Stewart's delivery is flawless and cunning.
The interviews are annoying in their over-the-top-ness, but occasionally they'll find some unsuspecting dupe who will either blithely feel their way through the interview or play along, getting the joke.
I must give the show its props for my personal life, too. The Daily Show got me through the war in 2003. I'd come home from a hard night's work, on average about 4 am, and I would crash on the couch for a bit to decompress before bed. I'd pop in my Daily Show tape from the previous night (before the days of DVR... thank you God for DVR!) and have a good nerve-soothing laugh. It was great to laugh about all the things I'd been fussing over at work.
My wife can't understand why I like the show. Mostly her arguments go as follows:
"Why do you like Jon Stewart? All he does is bash the president. You like George Bush, don't you? I can't believe someone as conservative as you likes this show..."
Of course I like George W. Bush. I voted for him both times, and I don't regret my vote. (Could you see the Gore response on 9/11?) But he's a human being, making mistakes and stuff. And the Republican Party certainly isn't perfect! Stewart's job is to find those foibles and make them into entertainment. And he usually hits the mark.
I gotta say, that's one funny man.
