Firefox Extensions

After years of using Maxthon/MyIE2, I'm going to give Firefox a real shot at winning me over.

I have so many cool Maxthon plugins that really enhance my browsing experience, and I'm looking for the same thing from Firefox. Specifically, the two plugins I'll miss the most involved BBCodes and Smilies/Images, so I'm on the lookout for the best in those areas.

Notwithstanding that, what are your favorite Firefox extensions?

Looks interesting. I think I've heard of that one before.

Anyone know of an extension that will automatically fit all images and text on a page to fit the browser window? I have a Maxthon plugin that does that, and it comes in very handy.

Also, any way to set the font size for individual sites? I run at 1600x1200, and I'm always using Ctrl+ to increase the font size. But if I set a global minimum font size to get where I want, it messes up the layout of some sites.

Before, I had the handy IE View and Image Zoom extensions. Plus my mail checker, weather and ReminderFox on my toolbars.

Since this thread started, I decided to look around again. I tried out StumbleUpon...seems cool. I definitely wouldnt've found sites like them by myself. Link Preview needs some work, but I think I'll keep it on here. Still need to adjust/tailor commands to Gestures. The commands remind me of the old Playstation combos for Mortal Kombat and Tekken...sort of.

Was thinking about trying 'How'd I Get Here', or 'Define Word'. Anyone tried these, or better versions?

Thanks Tarkus

Mouse gestures and Ad block are my favs. Also have Greasemonkey and several others. Flashgot didn't really do anything for me but I've got a very quick cable connection anyway. Make sure you get Fire Tune. It's a freeware program that does a very good job optimizing Firefox.

I love FlashGot, because I'm so used to organizing my downloads with FlashGet.

FireTune looks good. I'm already using Fasterfox, but this looks more complete.

Anyone know of something that will allow you to use IEspell with Firefox. Or perhaps an alternative?

Not sure exactly what IEspell is, but try SpellBound for FF here: http://spellbound.sourceforge.net/

Funny you should suggest that, werewolf. I was just coming here to post about SpellBound. Thanks anyway.

Sheesh. That's a whole lot of memory. I sometimes see Firefox's CPU usage shoot up, but I've never seen it use that much RAM.

Anyway, I just dropped in to mention that BugMeNot has a Firefox extension.

Right now it's using about 200 megs each for regular and virtual memory. When I took that screenshot it was about a minute into shutting it down (which is why the CPU was so high). It ended up taking several minutes to completely shut down. Not sure why. Maybe because I had uninstalled one extension and installed another, and both were pending.

Thanks for the info about BugMeNot. That's a good service, and I was using a Maxthon plugin for them.

Back to SpellBound. How is that supposed to work? Is it supposed to be in the context menu of input forms like this one? If so, it's not working here. Maybe because I'm using Firefox 1.5 beta 2. (It allowed me to install it, though.)

Good find, liquidguru!

If you like tab browsing, try Duplicate Tab extension. I use it if a page I'm on has a link I want to go to, but I don't want to loose the original site. I use it a lot at WC.

thanks tarkus...

this extension is great...i couldn't upload photos to my Photo Album, 'cos i refuse to use IE...now i can open the photo management page in an IE Tab in firefox, and upload the photos !!!

also, i remember reading that Island Dog has to use IE now to post with his Mod status (i think it was you ID)..now you should be able to do it within firefox using this extension

Yes it was me. I used Firefox on a regular basis with this site, but for some reason when I was promoted to Moderator, IE is the browser that fully works here. Thanks for the link. I am going to check it out as soon as I get on my PC.

IE is the browser that fully works here.

Brad has noted that WC has a higher than average number of FF users, and he is supposed to be hiring more site staff in conjunction with the subscription/access changes. Maybe they will clean up the code so that Mods can get around in FF or Opera.
