WindowBlinds 5 Trouble Already =(

Why Wont it Work?!

I just upgraded my WindowBlinds to 5.0. It just put my computer into Windows Classic mode. I restarted. Same thing. I checked troubleshooting, and it gave me this message:

-------------------
WindowBlinds 5 BETA Troubleshooting Report:

WindowBlinds is not installed correctly on this PC. If you did not reboot after installing WindowBlinds 5 for the first time, then please reboot and try this again.

Your machine supports per pixel borders on WindowBlinds skins.

If you suffer visible corruption (overbright) on the frames and have a NVIDIA board then please be aware this is a NVIDIA bug. It has been seen on GeForce 4 cards and some FX series cards.

Video Information

You have one monitor in total.

(Gateway VX700) 1 is attached to RADEON 9600 PRO Family (Microsoft Corporation)

'RADEON 9600 PRO SEC Family (Microsoft Corporation)' also exists as device '\\.\DISPLAY2', but is not attached to the desktop.

'NetMeeting driver' also exists as device '\\.\DISPLAYV1', but is not attached to the desktop and is a mirror driver.

'RDPDD Chained DD' also exists as device '\\.\DISPLAYV2', but is not attached to the desktop and is a mirror driver.

PLEASE report all this information when submitting a problem report, especially anything related to per-pixel skinning. We don't know what's in that Dell you bought last July or the notebook the office gave you. Per-pixel skinning requires your drivers to at least claim to support the functions needed for it.
----------------------------

Isn't installed correctly?! So I uninstalled it, then reinstalled it, and rebooted again. Still, same problem, same message.

By the by, I have Windows XP x64. Is this going to be a problem?

Sorry, Same problem as the first poster. Non x 64 though. No skin apply at all. I uninstalled rebooted and reinstalled also. No changes. I turned on my themes service also. Only windows classic.

It's not about testing it on x64, we simply don't have an x64bit version yet.  An x64 version will come.  You can blame Microsoft for their hacky way of implementing 64bit versions, it actually requires a totally different version of WB.

Does not work on my system either. I have windows xp 64 Professional and a 7800GTX. It would appear as if they didnt do much testing on x64. Some official notification would be nice. I am tempted to install regular winxp just to try it out. After purchasing OD just to try the beta, it is very dissapointing
Reply #6 Top
Thanks for the notice, Brad. When can we expect an x64 version? WB5 looks amazing, and I'm considering backing down to 32 JUST for that. But if a version is coming out soon, I won't bother.

P.S. - Next time tell me before I install it, silly =P.

XP Pro SP2, ATI Mobility 9700 with 128M, single display (Dell Inspiron 9200). Installed, rebooted, uninstalled, rebooted, reinstalled, rebooted - no skin application, just "classic" Windows.

Hmm, if you select a theme through Display Properties > Appearance it loads the default windows classic theme on every WB theme..

I just tried to run it on my brother's computer. His graphics card is only like 64-MB. On his computer, WB is installed correctly, but per-pixel is disabled (because it says it isn't able to do it).

Still won't work.

On my other brother's computer (he has a fairly new computer, good graphics card..not quite sure what it is, but I'll add it in a minute). Everything in troubleshooting is fine. Except it still won't work.

Both brothers have 32-bit processors (XP, of course).

WindowBlinds 5 BETA Troubleshooting Report:

WindowBlinds is installed correctly on this PC.

Your machine does not support per pixel borders on WindowBlinds skins.

This is because :

Your computer graphics hardware does not support acceleration of per pixel alpha. WindowBlinds requires this for per pixel alphablended borders as without it performance would be poor. Please see if you can obtain new drivers for your graphics hardware. Recent ATI & NVIDIA boards should support this feature. Onboard graphics tend not to.

Is there anyone who doesn't have the FX series card, has Windows XP 32-bit, has only one monitor listed, and whose machine supports per pixel borders? I'm wondering if the problem is any combination of what I listed.

Slightly diff problem here...wbconfig won't even start...errors out and gives me classic theme..boooo!
P4 1.6 ghz, ati radeon 9700 running 2 monitors...happened upon prompt reboot, and every time I try to apply skins...wbconfig won't load, and display properties just gives me classic theme...cant do WB troubleshooting because wbconfig won't load, so no other info available...

BrokenSquare: look for wblind.dll in your install directory.  Is it there?

After installing and rebooting nothing is skinned. Initially I thought that I had to choose a skin and then apply it but none of the skins tha I choose will work. Here is the troubleshooting info which doesn't really suggest something is wrong, but it's only my work computer anyway....now if I have problems on my green machine at home......I MIGHT JUST KILL MYSELF!!! Keep up the awesome work guys

Are you on 32-bit? What Service Packs do you have installed? 2 monitors could be a problem, as I already listed. Have you tried rebooting again?

And, lastly, why on earth are you on a 1.6ghz computer and using a sweet card like the 9700?

Reading through postings, it appears that among us having problems, alot of us have 2 monitors...more so than the average, I would expect! Hmmmm...?!?

Hey, I took what I could get! yes, on 32 bit sp2...no reboot...postings seem to indicate no use...

Now I don't even see anything in common with people. Just a side note, it was listed that someone had a Radeon 9800 PRO and it didn't work. Mine is the same. But I'm also on 64-bit, so what do I know.

Oh, just so you all know, I reverted back to the old, stable 4.6 version. I still have that Arrow theme. It looks pretty sweet, even without the transparency. Problem on the bottom right (the system tray), but other than that it's pretty spectacular. Oh, and no glow .
