WindowBlinds 5 Trouble Already =(

WindowBlinds 5 Trouble Already =(

Why Wont it Work?!

I just upgraded my WindowBlinds to 5.0. It just put my computer into Windows Classic mode. I restarted. Same thing. I checked troubleshooting, and it gave me this message:

-------------------
WindowBlinds 5 BETA Troubleshooting Report:

WindowBlinds is not installed correctly on this PC. If you did not reboot after installing WindowBlinds 5 for the first time, then please reboot and try this again.

Your machine supports per pixel borders on WindowBlinds skins.

If you suffer visible corruption (overbright) on the frames and have a NVIDIA board then please be aware this is a NVIDIA bug. It has been seen on GeForce 4 cards and some FX series cards.

Video Information

You have one monitor in total.

(Gateway VX700) 1 is attached to RADEON 9600 PRO Family (Microsoft Corporation)

'RADEON 9600 PRO SEC Family (Microsoft Corporation)' also exists as device '\\.\DISPLAY2', but is not attached to the desktop.

'NetMeeting driver' also exists as device '\\.\DISPLAYV1', but is not attached to the desktop and is a mirror driver.

'RDPDD Chained DD' also exists as device '\\.\DISPLAYV2', but is not attached to the desktop and is a mirror driver.

PLEASE report all this information when submitting a problem report, especially anything related to per-pixel skinning. We don't know what's in that Dell you bought last July or the notebook the office gave you. Per-pixel skinning requires your drivers to at least claim to support the functions needed for it.
----------------------------

Isn't installed correctly?! So I uninstalled it, then reinstalled it, and rebooted again. Still, same problem, same message.

By the by, I have Windows XP x64. Is this going to be a problem?

If I had to choose between a new compy and a new wife...

Haha, I'm just kidding =P. But I'm still serious about rebooting =P.

So far, all is OK, I have a pentium 4, 2.53ghz, NVidia FX5200, 128meg graphics card, 512 ram, I am running ARROW skin, looks good, took a bit for WindowBlinds to pick up all my skins, looks like New skins are working ok, so far, have not as yet tried out on older skins, getting a bit late, will try a few in the morning, but remember guys, it is BETA. NVIDIA GeForce4 440 <--- I believe that is what one of my brothers' has. Which means that his troubleshooting specs are nearly one for one the same as Jim Latimer--who actually has it working. Mind boggling, isn't it?

Well just to be different, I wanted to say thanks for this release and it's working perfectly.

Running ATI X850XT PCI-X w/ Catalyst 5.9.

The sooner anyone from Stardock could just mention a few possible problems and/or (preferably) solutions, that would be great. I know I can't expect a simple solution because I've got x64, but there are other folks out there who still need help. And I'd still like to know when WB5 for x64 will be released .

Installation & Reboot went fine.
All new Skins and Features seem to work.
BUT my rundll32.exe always crashed (right after reboot & when i try to access my display properties).

Forceware driver version 81.82, was on the 78.01 version, same overbright top and bottom frame boarders, ghosting in the taskbar etc. aka the nvidia bugs but on a new card.

Will wait for the next version

Having no problems on HP laptop.New skins look good no great. Old skins working fine. Thanks this is really great. Hope the bugs get fixed for everyone.

If you're going to be like "this program R0X0RZ for me!" then you need to at least post your computer specs. It's pretty hard for Stardock if they have nothing to work off of. They need to know what is causing the problems, and what allows things to work fine.

I have installed WB5 beta, rebooted and found these issues (I'm currently working on Windows XP SP2 (x86), ForceWare 77.77, 2 GB RAM, Athlon64 3500+):
- Various problems and conflicts with WindowFX (right click menus won't draw correctly and sometimes are completely black; random Windows Explorer crashes, windows transitions which don't work, etc.)
- Overbright windows on my GF 6800 128 MB
- Upper and bottom borders of the windows are more bright than the left and right ones
- Sometimes bottom window borders aren't drawn at all
- Sometimes start menu program bar won't refresh properly and already closed windows remains as "ghost" until start menu is used again (i.e. until I click on Start)
- I can't access anymore to Display properties (if I right click on my desktop -> Properties, nothing happens until I unload Windowblinds)
If I find more issues, I'll report them

I think I'll take a full back-up before upgrading, just to be sure

I did as https://forums.stardock.com/?ForumID=167&AID=87433 suggested, but to no avail. Seems StarDock rushed things a bit for us patientless users. I'd have rather waited another day for something that worked than something that didn't. But that's me. I hope the problem is fixed soon.
On a side note, I don't have SP2, and I have XP Home.

first install of windowblinds 5 gave me the same result as many others here.. right to windows classic theme after reboot.. This is windows xp pro pentium 4 3.ghz ati 9800 pro..

I uninstalled the wb5 and removed everything in the folder except the themes then reinstalled and it worked fine.

looking good!

Same result on my laptop as my PC. XP home. It's not my day I guess. Going back to 4.6

Did the same as post #45...works now, but glow effects are not present, ALL kinds of border and button draw problems....IE windows have min/max buttons, but windows explorer doesn't...wbconfig troubleshooting gives same message as others prev. posted...might have to wait on v5 a bit to see if later betas work better...but as someone else said it IS a beta!this is how we all help improve it!

Working great for me.. and get this..
Video Card 1: GeForce2MX 64MB
Video Card 2: Geforce4MX 64MB
PIII-800
Dual Monitors..

I thought for sure I would be shafted on this and am amazed that it works.
So far, so good.
