They have released RC1 for Openoffice.

OpenOffice.org is the open source project through which Sun Microsystems is releasing the technology for the popular StarOffice productivity suite. It is an international office suite that will run on all major platforms and provide access to all functionality and data through open-component based APIs and an XML-based file format. It establishes the necessary facilities to make this open source technology available to the developer community.

ah nice! I just intalled the beta a couple of days ago. I've completely stepped away from Microsoft Office. The drop was when I was writing a report and Word would just completely go nuts when I tried putting more than 3 images in it. They kept shifting about. Really annoyed me, espesially since it was at 2 o'clock in the moring before the deadline... o_O

The OpenOffice suite is great for me. I don't do much writing, other than the odd report now and then. And I use spreadsheets to keep order of my bills.

I have installed this on my kids computer, and they like it also.

I still use MS Office to ensure compatibility with sending files to others when I know I will be sharing something. But I really, really have been impressed with OpenOffice. I know there are limitations, but for the standard user they are hard to find.
