SD Virtual Desktops 1.99d(rc).002

Hi Jeff, I've just come across what appears to be another bug with this version (or the perhaps the result of trying to get it going with more than 3 desktops). After a reboot this morning SVD now wont run and pops up an "expired shareware" notice. I have current OD Network subscription and most definitely shouldn't be seeing this. Back to no SVD

Yea, our bad. We have a new build here, we're going to try to get it up tomorrow. Our PM is out of town attending a funeral.

Phew, that's good news (about the new build, that is!) It sure is a pain not having multiple desktops. Thanks for the quick reply - I'll go back to do what I should be doing now .

Please try anything to get it up. While I love and depend on the other OD programs, but I can't live without virtual desktops. I keep way too many programs open to try and juggle windows. I have been using a form of virtual desktops for almost 20 years. I have been crippled today without them.

I'm running RC2 as well, but not having the problem described above (maybe because I don't shut down every day). I am having a major problem with it though - using the default Windows XP taskbar, right clicking on the Virtual Desktops toolbar does absolutely nothing. How the heck am I supposed to configure it?

You may have upgraded a few days after it was first released. Those of us that are having problems downloaded the program the first day it was available. My machine was running for three days and the messages popped up.

I use to have this problem. As I recall there were some vestages of the the old manager hanging around. Completely uninstall the program and reboot. Once you are up and running delete the BandCC and Stardock Virtual Desktop directories. I think the old directory name was BandCC or something like it. Just to be complete, you may want to clear out your Registry. I removed the keys under HKCU\Software\Stardock\BandVWM and HKLM\Software\Stardock\BandVWM. Finally reinstall the program through SDC.

Hopefully it will solve your problems.

Any news on the update? I can't stand living without my SVD. That darned shareware warning keeps it from working at all.

I'm glad that you are stepping in. I was beginning to think that I was alone on my dependence for SVD. I keep checking SDC every hour for it. I really hope that Brad or someone posts it soon. It is killing my productivity. The only archived version I have is the last build which hangs when switching windows. Let's hope that it is soon.

You are not the only one sweating on it Mark. It's 6am in the morning here in Australia and I what's the first thing I do? - fire up SDC hoping to see a new version had been posted overnight while I was having nightmares about rampant windows all over my one desktop...

Well folks, another opportunity to ask how many people are having programs disappear when switching between desktops. It happens so frequently for me that I can't get serious work done. The programs show up in Program Manager and can be killed there, but there seems to be no way to get them back. (See also below on virtual desktops for more info).

I have never lost a program when switching desktops except for Firefox once or twice going away. I have to get into taskmgr and kill it then restart it, but it has never happened to any other program. I just wrote it off to some Firefox oddities.

I have had that issue. One thing I noted is that it tended to be Java based applications (like IntelliJ IDE or JEdit). I also noticed that in the default setup from SD they have exclusions for java and javaw executables so I'm wondering if this is a known problem.

Anyway I added my Java based development tools and apps to the exclusion list and I've not noticed other apps disappearing (yet).

While it is a total pain to not have the SVD working after I've already -paid- for it, there is an alternative for free from Microsoft.

Point your browser here: [Microsoft - XP Power Toys] On the bottom right side you'll find Virtual Desktop Manager. (Deskman.exe). Download, install, be happy.

It's not as flashy, but it gets the job done.
