Did the Beta 3/3A download fail to upgrade everything it should have?

As everyone may have noticed in some of my other threads I have had many problems with Beta 3 and Beta 3A vanish after I did a complete uninstall/reinstall. From the past I have learned that Stardock tries to clean up between builds to prevent what I have seen happening, but I am beginning to suspect they may have missed something this time.

Cari, Scott, please advise.

Much of the color selection for outlines, such as scroll bars, button pads (such as camera view controls), highlight selection, etc. seem to have been corrupted by upgrading from Beta 2 to Beta 3. The color that resulted was a very dim olive color that was very hard to see. The color after the uninstall/install is now a proper cyan.

Very interesting, Jack. Maybe we should all uninstall/reinstall?

I haven't quite gotten to the point of advocating that everyone do an uninstall/install yet. So far the only affect I have found for sure is in the color selection for boarders and outlines. However this one artifact seems to be the cause of many observations that look like other problems, such as missing social improvement options, inability to advance beyond colonization events, etc..

My suggestion at this point is if you are plagued by problems that might be caused by this and have difficulty getting around them, then do a complete uninstall/install. If you do, make sure it is complete (after doing the uninstall from SDC find the saved games folder within your documents folder (on "xp pro home" that would be "Documents and settings" folder -> the folder with your OS user id as a name -> "my documents" folder -> "my games" folder -> "galciv2" folder) and delete the "galciv2" folder), just in case.

Otherwise, I think we should wait for an advisory from the Stardock developers.

I think this problem also ties in with the CTD I had yesterday. See post https://www.galciv2.com/Forums.aspx?ForumID=274&AID=85471 ...

The uninstall/install I did after that problem was the only way I was able to get going again.

I noticed when I did a complete reinstall the custom race no longer had an increadible number of tech points to spend. I think the corruption is in anything that was carried over from non-defaults.

That was changed from v0.28 to v0.31

By "tech points" to spend, do you mean the ability to select certain techs for your race? I just uninstalled/reinstalled, and noticed that the pre-supplied techs are gone.

Some of the pre-designed ships are gone too. Such as the transport.

After a re-install, the transport is there.

What I meant with this is that there were several ships and several techs that were given to us at the beginning of a game in Beta 2. They are not there at the beginning of a game now. I have seen something that looks like we may be able to select some pre-discovered techs at the beginning of the game later in the beta.

From what i have seen you can no longer select techs for the other races but you can if you are playing the custom race.
What i find odd is that half of the races have taken a morale bonus and no other ability bonus.

For your unistall/ reinstall .... did you delete stardock interface as well? was there extra files you needed to clean? or did you just use the standard windows add remove programs to remove the old version and the stardock central to reinstall...

Thanks

NO.
Definitely not.

Use SDC to uninstall GC2, then delete the Galciv2 folder in the "my games" folder. Then use SDC to reinstall GC2.

With all Stardock products, always do the uninstalls and installs from SDC.
