Request: Ability to navigate in the Tech Tree

First off, I want to say how nice the new Tech Tree looks and feels. Much improved from Beta 2! The one adjustment I would like to see is the ability to navigate around in the "tree" area, so I can look ahead at upcoming techs. I want to know what prerequisites there are before I can get my Advanced Plasma Cannon tech! Right now, I can only seem to center the tree on techs that I can immediately research.

From my brief test last night (it was 2am) you can hold the left mouse button and drag the bottom screen around to select other techs. However even though if you click one and it highlights, the top part only ever tells you what the tech you could currently research on that tree will do for you. Would be nice if you could see what the tech you highlighted would do for you. Still a big improvement over B2 for ease of use though.

In addition to dragging the tech tree around, I found that if you click on a tech (but you have to click in the right spot, it's kind of finicky) it will center that tech in the bottom screen. I like the fact that the techs you can research are ordered by cost, but the navigation of the tree still leaves something to be desired.

BTW, given that you can now start out with some of the techs already researched, is there any point in researching the pre-requisite techs for the ones you already have? If researching the pre-req tech opens up other branches in the tree I can see it, but not if the only successor is a tech you already have.
