For Shenmue Online the question isn't when the game will come out but who owns it. As reported earlier this month, SEGA pulled the plug on JC Entertainment's developer status, citing quality issues, and transferred the title to a Taiwanese based developer. 4Gamer has caught word of yet another problem for the MMO, this time over who owns the rights to the game.
The break-up for SEGA is a big problem since JC Entertainment actually owns half of the intellectual property rights to Shenmue Online. 4Gamer reports that the company is not willing to sell their share, which is an extremely powerful bargaining chip for the negotiations with SEGA.
The source in JC Entertainment says that SEGA and JC Entertainment are trying to end their bitter break-up by "exploring for ways to make a peaceful settlement. They've agreed that they won't worsen the situation to a point where it involves legal actions."
