Won't Uninstall

This may be the wrong forum but this seems to be as close as I can get.

I can not uninstall Stardock Central. Through Stardock Central I have unistalled everything that was installed. When I go to add/remove to uninstall Stardock, it freezes up. I have tried installing sdcentral_setup.exe and stardockcentral205.exe on top of what was already was installed but that didn't work.

I did a system restore to get rid of it but I killed my sound and I knowthat Stardock has something to do with it because I NEVER have sound problems.

Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

If the 'Restore Point' is prior to the SDC install, then it's not Stardock that's the problem. Re-install your sound drivers.

Sound is not my problem. My problem is uninstalling SDC. I should not have to resort to a system restore just to get rid of SDC.

Why does SDC not allow me to uninstall? It freezes when I try.

Go to C:\Program Files\Stardock\SDCentral and click on UNWISE. Point it to where ever the install file is. If it's freezing using 'Add and Remove' then the file is probably in C:\Program Files\Common Files\Stardock

Thanks but I did that and it froze.
It's the unwise file that is freezing.
There are no unwise files in C:\Program Files\Common Files\Stardock.

sounds like sdmcp.exe is still running, which is causing uninstall
problem.
Get to the point at which the uninstaller freezes, then right click taskbar
and select task manager.
See if sdmcp.exe is running. If it is, select it, and end process.
The uninstaller should unfreeze and carry on.
I hope this helps.
Ronnie.

WC also has a program that will completely remove hard to un install programs, but I am not sure where it is on this site. If the procedure Boyron mentioned doesn't work, you could email stardock and they can tell you where it is, if someone doesn't come along and tell you first. Good luck!

I'm magic.

actually: Link Under component manager, click trouble shooting - scroll down to 7th question. or click Bandwith VM - Misc and scroll up a hair. It also gets posted a lot - i think a couple of times recently due to IconPackager.

BINGO! Thank you very much, Boyron!

(By the way, all this started out of being frustrated with Icon fudgePackager not wanting to work properly. I was getting the 1-2 second open close thing and just got frustrated and gave up.)

I am also having problems uninstaling SDC after experiencing problems with Icon Packager which for me was the last straw on an unstable suite of programs. Using Windows uninstall program locked my system, so I tried to individual uninstall each program but ran into a problem losing the msvcr71.dll which caused a number of problem which I resolved by reinstalling the programs. Like Marty I also lost sound. Bichur lindly sent me a link to odnt zapper but I am not sure how/when I should use it. Can someone help as I have now spent several days trying to rid my system of SDC which is worse than getting rid of a virus

Toreabay: basically the ODNTzapper is to uninstall the component that are having trouble uninstalling with StarDock Central.
You want to uninstall all the components prior to uninstalling SDC. You want to set everything back to windows default prior to uninstalling components. I haven't had the problems y'all (and others) have been listing except for the IconPackager thing and unregistering the dll worked for me. This is from Sleeping Dragon on a post by OzGirl on 7/13:

[7/12/05 refresh] We've pulled the iprepair.dll from new distributions. There's
occasional problems being reported with it still. If you really want to attempt
to replace the folder icons in applications that are picking up the system-icons
in non-standard ways, email kwilas@stardock.com and I'll send you a copy of
the dll.

If you wish to disable an existing copy of it, Start / Run /
regsvr32.exe /u "c:\program files\stardock\object desktop\iconpackager\iprepair.dll"

please note - there is a space between /u & "c - and you need the quote marks.

So, basically trying putting the components back - restore windows back to defaults - then removing the components, then uninstalling SDC.

If the post stay up long enough, somebody will come by with specific instruction which unfortunately I don't have - I know Corky O has posted total uninstall instruction before, but I can't find them since I can't remember which post/subject they were in - still looking.
