Pointless Uploads

Ok, got a question. I uploaded a couple July 4th wallpapers to share with the community here. I uploaded them to the Wallpaper section. Shortly afterwards, I received an email stating the files have been posted on my personal page. So here's the question...

What is the point in uploading files to share if they get stuck on your personal page? A page that I have never even seen for that matter *chuckles*

I realize I must be doing something wrong, just can't figure out what.

Submissions that would normally be moderated, and thus rejected, now show on personal pages instead of winding up in the ashes of oblivion.

And not all of them are allowed on personal pages!

CGhost click My Skins tab at top of page.

Ok, I got the "My Skins" part and see a couple of my uploads. But the question still remains... what's the point of uploading to share with others when others cannot see them without being sent a link to your personal page?

How is it that other folks seem to be able to upload their stuff and have it posted in the general listings?

I do not need to upload my stuff to a personal page like this. Hell! I am a SysAdmin for a large ISP... I have 2 dozen net servers I can store that stuff on if I want to be mailing out links to individuals. I take the time to upload stuff here to share with the community.

Or at least, that was my intent.

Not everything is accepted here for the general listings. It's just the way it is. Keep at it, though, and eventually something will be accepted.

CGhost  ...Wallpapers are one thing that just about everyone with a copy of MSPaint will at one time or another, try their hand at.

This means the potential exists for each and every one of the 2.15 million site members to inundate Wincustomize with myriads of walls.  So without some checks and balances what is essentially a skinning site 'could' become a massive wallpaper repository [with the odd skin or two].

Because there is already a surfeit of wall sites on the net, preferential treatment is afforded to actual 'skins' vs 'wallpapers' [whether a wall is a skin or not makes no difference].

In the past, walls were moderated 'fairly' extensively....and one or ten complaints were posted, usually on a day ending in 'y'.

Now, with the option to have works directed to the 'Personal Pages' it means relatively fewer walls are 'rejected' outright.... which should be seen as a 'win-win' situation.

On the other hand, for someone with 2 dozen servers at his disposal is there really a 'need' to utilize a 25th?....

Jafo,

I can see Your point, and don't argue that in the LEAST. There are enough "trash paper" sites out there already. I love this site BECAUSE you folks do such a good job weeding out the junk.

However, My point was... There is the rare occasion when I create or come across a really nice wallpaper that I think this community would like, THAT is why I upload em. (and if you look at My personal page here, you will see there isn't much on it) I try not to waste anybody's time with junk. I understand WHY you have the wallpaper uploads post in a personal page, but that being said... How does one go about getting it moved to a general page that can be viewed by the community as a whole?

As for the 25th server Posting the wallpaper on my own servers does not achieve the afore mentioned task of sharing it with others here *thump*

And for the record... This topic is only a very minor "whine", not a "bitch" I think this site AND you folks running it are doing a GREAT job!

You should never upload a wallpaper that you've "come across"..... it's not yours to distribute.

Short answer is, you don't. If it has been placed in you personal library, that means it would have been rejected otherwise..... sorry.

Ah....Randy beat me to it....yes...please DO NOT upload walls, etc that you 'came across'.

That is a copyright/distribution issue...
