trash plugin doesn't work

Jeez, this should be the simplest plugin to use. I created a 'full' image and an 'empty' image and applied them to the required states. Deleted something, but the object didn't change. Even clicking on it didn't empty the trash. Do I have to be in client mode? Does the plugin have to be activated somehow? What am I missing?

None of the trash widgets I've used have worked for me. They always remain in empty state (or full, I don't remember).

Might have been a blessing. I put my WXP SP2 trashcan back on the desktop, and with IconX it looks great, and it always matches my current theme.
