Trouble with City of Heroes

Trouble with City of Heroes

I've had some difficulty with the non-pro version of Multiplicity and City of Heroes. I use the left computer for the primary and the computer on the right side as secondary. During gameplay I will run into this problem. I move the mouse to the right screen and switch computers. Then I move back to the primary and drop both mouse and keyboard control in City or Heroes. If I alt tab out of COH I can see that I still have control of both mouse and keyboard in other programs. If I move back to the secondary I have control over both on the secondary but short of unloading Multiplicity and COH on the primary and restarting both I haven't been able to find a solution. My Thanks, C

We are looking into this and any info you can provide about what you are doing when it happens would be helpful.

I have the game on full screen running.. ill set it so i dont have to click anything to switch over to the second pc and it will switch over fine. Ill go back to the main pc and everything is working.. ill play for a little while and then switch over to the second pc.. If i switch back to the main pc the mouse and keyboard no longer work for the main pc.. i need to shut the game down and restart it.. its the same if i just leave the game and not switch for a little while but if i switch again it just locks up.. Is there some kind of time out session or something? It just seems to happen on the main pc the second 1 never locks up and will work fine. let me know what else you need or any questions you might have and ill do my best.. thanks

So how many sales do you think you've lost over the past year due to this problem? I mean, I know I'm one, so there has to be others. I'm a Lineage II player - when I run the game on my secondary computer (my laptop), I can't move the cursor or input text on the secondary, and the focus won't return to the primary unless I use Scroll Lock switching. I haven't even tried trying running it on my primary, because the point of this setup was letting me play the game on the nicer laptop display and gfx hardware while using my fullsize desktop mouse and keyboard. You obviously know your target audience is largely made up of gamers, because you advertise to them. That means this bug should be top priority, right underneath anything that compromises security. And taking over a year to solve a top priority problem, and still not presenting any kind of time table or even a real status update looks really shoddy from a business point of view. Even Microsoft can do better than that. Neil is right, it probably does have to do with anti-cheating safeguards. Most of these games run software that complicates the ability to have a third-party program enter input to discourage people from creating 'bot' software. But there's still bot software which functions somehow - and more than that, MaxVista seems to have found a way around it, as well as offer thier product for $10 cheaper. So what's the hold up?

We now have access to the game and will be performing tests this week.

mordacity: The reported problem here is with playing on the PRIMARY.  If you are having a problem on the secondary, then it may be the game is rejecting input that is not coming from the local mouse / keyboard.

Previously ActiveWords had a similar problem with rejecting input which they have now resolved based on input from ourselves.

Correct it is with the PRIMARY. Even when the PRIMARY stops working the secondary still works.. Just an issue with the PRIMARY.. Thanks neil and hope this gets fixed!!

Last post was on August 31, 2006 06:20:55. Its now Oct 11 and you have posted nothing to show any progress on this... ITs not very hard to recreate the issue. Setup 2 accounts 1 on the primary computer and 1 on the second computer.. make sure you logged in and playing. Keep switching back and forth for a few min and you will see that you have lost connection to it and will no longer be able to use the main. Not sure why this is taking so long for you to resolve this issue but im getting sick of it...

Hey guys,

I have been jumping into City of Heros for about 15 min randomly through the end of last week on this one. We are also planning on making more tests for EQ. A of yet I have not replicated this problem. I have read this post along but I would like to get in a dialog with someone on this to help me test it. Perhaps a live one. Either contact me through our IRC channels or send me a emai at travis@stardock.com please. I would like to get this resolved for you as soon as possible.

Cheers,
Seabass

Just bought mutiplicity too... Playing EQ and get same problem. 2nd runs fine whole time but Primary get keyboard loss in game after awhile... alt+tab still works and i can move mouse around... but clicks doesnt get responded in game. Nothing is affected in browser and so on...

You maybe should look at synergy... it works great with that program if you dont count their problem with mouse sensivity on 2nd comp in games (its like mouse on LSD)

Please look into this. I would gladly help with testing if you have a debug version that making logs i can send to ya.

Ciao

Neil, Seabass, and anyone else looking into this matter:

I'm having the identical problem EQ1, and it's pretty much preventing me from using the features of multiplicity when I'm playing. I'd love to be able to get use out of the product I bought, so...

Can you please update us with the status of your research into this matter? Did you manage to reproduce the problem? Any ETA on a fix?

I can help with replication of the issue in EQ1 if you're still unable. For me it generally happens when I'm working on a secondary for more than a minute, then the input poofies on the primary.

Hi,

I posted on this elsewhere but I will update here as well.

We know about the issue with CoH and EQ1 and 2. I was able, through help of our customers, to get some accounts and replicate the problem. I have spoken with the developers on the matter. What is being considered is that the anti cheat features of the games are interrupting Multiplicity. The reason that this is taking so long is two fold.

1) We are still working on how to correct this.

2) We don't want our software exploiting anti cheat software of another company. It isn't neighborly.

Rest assured that I bug our developers on this and the matter is in no way closed. If you wish to get refunds you will have to ask our good staff at sales@stardock.com. However please know that this issue will get resolved one way or another. Till then feel free to bug me with any other questions you might have.

Also the second I know something or an update is made available I will post back here with all the info.

Cheers,

Hmmm...I have been using multiplicity with EQ2 for 6 months or so. Works beautifully. EQLive on the other hand...

Argh... I wish I had seen this thread before placing my order!

How 'bout giving us a progress report seeing as you've had 6 months or so to work on a solution?

Just want to add to this. Apparently there is a similar problem in Vanguard also. What happens is the right click is accepted in mouselook on the primary machine but moving the mouse no longer moves the character. This happens after it runs fine for a few minutes.

I just purchased multiplicity pro to use with EQ2.

I have eq2 running in windowed mode on each machine and have not had a problem.

However, CoH/CoV and Lineage 2 is another issue.

On the Primary (no game running on secondary) both games start out fine and load the log in screen. However, the momment I click or type CoH hangs the whole system and Lineage 2 gives me a blue screen (something about an IRQ). The games as a default load in full screen mode.

In order for them to run correctly, I have to turn off both multiplicity parts (multiplicity.exe and multiplsrv32.exe)

I've also tried running Vanguard and WoW both work fine in windowed mode. I haven't tried them in full screen.

I have a ms keyboard and logitech mouse but I haven't installed any specific drivers for them. It's what ever default driver the OS loads.

just tried maxvista software and despite not being as nice as multi it works with no crashes or problems in CoH. I dont like it as much though so hopefully they fix this to work

Yep. it's like he said. Multiplicity is much nicer set up but MaxiVista does work. I tried it with CoH/CoV and Lineage 2 both of which would crash my OS (WinXP) with Multiplicity but they work great with MaxiVista. MaxiVista also says it's Windows Vista compatible in some specific graphics mode but I haven't tested that out since i don't have Windows Vista yet.

If you receive a IRQ BSOD then you have a hardware / driver issue.

Multiplicity does not install any drivers.

Is there any movement on this issue? Its been known since 2005. Would be nice to get it fixed so I can use Multiplicity for the reason I purchased it.

I'd like to add that I have been experiencing this exact issue myself as well. I've been wrestling with it on my own for the last few weeks, not bothering to do a web search since I was confident that my issue was unique. Clearly however, it's not. I'd love to see a fix for this.

I think it has to do with maybe the length of time you spend on the secondary machine...? It never fails if I quickly go over to machine 2 and click something and then go back. But, if I spend any sort of extended period of time on the secondary monitor, it seems to occur. It doesn't appear to have anything to do with how long City of Heroes has been running. In fact, In the time it took me to read this thread and type this response, I was able to duplicate the issue. (CoH is running on my primary PC at this very moment)

The thing to keep in mind is that ONLY the game itself stops responding. I can minimize the game and the keyboard and mouse work fine on the desktop and in other programs. The game itself runs fine, too, except that you can't interact with it. After the issue occurs, if you exit Multiplicity, it doesn't fix the issue, by the way.

Since this is a commercial product that I paid for, I'd really like to see some action taken to resolve this issue. It's not like I'm running unsupported freeware like Synergy or something. (Which by the way works fine, although it doesn't switch well when a game is running fullscreen. Which reminds me, I wonder if this issue will happen if I play CoH in a window... Hmmmm.... I'll let you know.)
