Microsoft "THEMES" service

what does this do?

I turned off the service but what exactly does it do? I can't tell any difference.

Will it affect Windowblinds and or my other Object Desktop programs?

Disabling the "themes" service won't affect any Object Desktop programs. (At least it hasn't for me. I have full Object Desktop and have had "themes" service disabled for a long time with no ill effects.)
Take a look here: http://www.theeldergeek.com/services_guide.htm for more info on the services in Windows. Black Viper's site comes up as "under construction" or you could look there.

It is the service that enables the XP "Luna" themes (blue, olive, and silver) to be applied - disabling it leaves the classic view if in the normal windows mode without a third party skinning program loaded.
