Icon-A-Day, Icon # 75, Mobile Device
For everyone with a PDA, we need this one.
| Icon 75 (Mobile Device) Today we well continue on through the folder icons. Today's icon is one of the specialty folders; the "Mobile Devices" folder. If you don't have a PDA then you most likely have never seen this one, but it is supported in the IP format, so I want to make sure we do it. Plus I have a Pocket PC and need it for myself. | ||
| Step 1: Like yesterday, we start with a few mesh rectangles, blocking out our PDA's shape. ![]() |
Step 2:
Now we start editing our meshes, giving some shape to the body of the PDA and a nice gradient to the screen. |
Step 3: Now to polish up the screen, we copy our Internet globe, crop it a bit and give it some transparency to make it look like it is on the display. I also give the screen a bit of Gloss, making sure it is above the picture. ![]() |
| Step 4:
Now with some standard circles and some gradients I make the buttons for the bottom of the PDA. To give them some dimension I also give each button a slight drop shadow. |
Step 5:
To make sure that our PDA matches the other icons I go in and do some more detail editing to the main PDA object, giving it some bevels and some darker panels. |
Step 6: The last major mesh editing I have to do is go in and flesh out the stylus lying in front of the PDA. ![]() |
| Step 7: Quickly I give the PDA and the stylus some texture using our Texture Transparency techniques. ![]() |
Step 8: Now with our Drop Shadow techniques we give the PDA and the stylus some shadows. ![]() |
Step 9: Lastly we give it the obligatory Reflection. See the Reflection Tutorial for more. ![]() |

Tomorrow we will do another Folder icon. Only a few more to go, then we will have to brush up for more of the obscure icons. | ||
