What Happens to Article and Forum Points

Once deleted points go away?

I was cleaning my articles and forum posts, since some have become obsolete. Why do the points disapear with deletion of an article? Is that how it's suppose to be?

I've noticed this isn't the case with other numbers, like download numbers. They stay counted even after a skin is deleted. Which is correct?
