User Ranks, what exactly do they mean?

is there a purpose?

Recently I have been wondering what the user ranks really do, I have watched mine get lower, and lower and lower ( I assume this is good??..LoL) I have been more interested in getting the award for 1000 downloads, and even then I had to wonder if it was a general total or it was a singular total... I decided it was a genral overall total, but then I wondered, since it is an award that is only given once, might it be better to make it a single item total? especially since it is not given for 5000, 10,000 and so on, as many artists have achieved. Anyway, those are just my thoughts on the 1000 Download award..

It is really the Ranking that perplex's me.. What purpose does it serve? who uses's it and why? I havent found much that explains them, so I thought I would ask those of you who know..

Thanks,
Zero.

I think it has to do with how much Ice cream one can eat. My rank is 40 because I can eat 40 scoops of ice cream. Mormegil can only eat 1.

I don't know. Something refreshing like Chocolate Chip Mint I could probably eat 125 scoops.

User ranks 'start' at Exiled and 'end' at Admin....they list as...

Exiled, Visitor, Citizen, Apprentice, Master Apprentice, Journeyman, Master, Wizop, Admin.

When you create an account you 'start' at Citizen.

The previous 2 are states of 'demotion'.  Visitor retains site access but devoices [cannot post comment to forums, etc]. Exile bars site access.

With input, contribution, and experience you can be promoted [by Admin or Wizop] by stages up to Journeyman....by which stage it is recognised you are a significant contributor of value to the skinning community...whereby even your rating 'influence' reflects your knowledge/experience.

'Master' is much like 'Life Member'.... a title reserved for specific acknowlegement...and one that must be voted on by the admins/wizops, whereas all prior can be/are at the discretion of any one of them.

'Wizop' is the level where administrative controls for forum moderation, etc are bestowed and naturally that level is also achieved through recommendation and vote.

'Super Wizop' is a new one...to distinguish from the forum moderators...and is generally what/who used to be 'wizop'...same promotional rules apply.

'Admin' is much the same as the previous two but is reserved for Stardock personnel who are hands-on with the site coding, policy direction and such....[remember Stardock owns and pays for Wincustomize].....except for me....I'm the odd man out....but conveniently in an alternate time zone to the Stardock crew which makes good sense, I guess...

Most of what this all boils down to is that if/when someone new to the site asks for help, etc....the 'quality' of that help should be easily gauged by the ranking of the person giving the advice.

In site protocol issues.....to put it simply, an exile or visitor cannot request you do something or not do it....[as they have no voice]....whereas if a Wizop or Admin asks you to do or not do something.....it's probably wise to listen...

All these levels are a 'reward' method...to which can be ascribed some feature or advantage that others 'lower down' may not have....eg 'strength' of rating....works that bypass moderation automatically....no download caps, etc.

This promotion process....being a 'reward' system naturally goes both ways...up AND down.....make a faux pas of sufficient magnitude and you 'can' go backwards.

There's no real value to a one-way only street....

Okay all joking aside the rank you are talking about I think haas to do with how many people visit your site. The more people that visit the lower your rank goes. For instance lets say you have 100 and x amount of people visit you today which gives you more than some people, but less than others, then your rank will change. Might go to 99.Hope this clarifies and I hope this is the one you are talking about.

Thanks Jafo..and you caught yourself..LoL..Butch..That definition would be odd as well..when i first noticed those "Rank Numbers" they were at something like 500..they have been steadily decreasing with time..the fact the Mormigil is a 1 would make me assume it does have something to do with "Contribution" Mormigil cntirbutes quite a bit..very good quality contributions to boot..
The Rank numbers have no legend or really explanation how someone uses or loses those..and really..they seem quite useless due to the fact they are mis-understood or simply "unknown" to alot of us..

Something refreshing like Chocolate Chip Mint I could probably eat 125 scoops.

Hmmmm..Haag n Daz = Vanilla Almond Crunch!...I could get close if I had that..::nods:: ..LoL

Hm..which ranks do you refer to?The ones on Stats Page?

Why is this confusing. If more people visit your site(totals are shown right next to your rating) your rating goes down. Mormegil is a 1 because he has had the most visits overall. Your rating going down over time means more people have visited your site.
Its pretty easy to understand.

are you talking about this...
Access Class: Citizen (1)
User Level: Visitor (2)
i no my access class, that has been explained, but what's my user level for, because how can i be a visitor if i am registered?

I was kinda wondering what that ranking was about. I figured it was something along those lines, but it's always good to be sure. So... basically it's about gettin attention! lol

Is that really all it is NT? Ranks based upon site views?..The meaning isnt hard to understand, but to understand the meaning, one must first know the meaning to understand it..LoL..Understand?

It just seems to me there is more to them..I havent been keeping track of my sites views..but I can hardly imagine it gets that many visitors per day, well..enough to make any significant change in those rank stats.. I am probably wrong to assume anything more than your explanation, you have been here quite awhile..
If your explanation is correct, hell..I had better start adding more of my favorite skins to it so people will DL them!..LoL..

::Waits for Jafo's clarification post, since he said he was gonna!..LoL::

If all this is just about those numbers in the Stats tab ...eg..

# Site Hits (Rank): 6,289 (72)
# Site Hits Today (Rank): 40 (40)

# Total Site Referrals (Rank):

it's painfully self-evident....6,289 people have looked at my site....which ranks me at 72....meaning 71 people have had more than 6,289 people look at THEIR sites.

6 (105)

Now...if someone had asked more clearly I wouldn't have written all that junk in #9 ..... and still had a life....

I appreciate the clarification Jafo, thanks! Apparently I am not the only one that misunderstood their meaning so I am sure others appreciate the time you have taken to explain as well..
In both case's!..LoL

As for the clarity of my question..some got it, some didnt..I dont think it was all that unclear. Sometimes things just arent clear to certain individuals is all...like those numbers were for me..

Thanks a bunch,
Zero.
