Widgets?

I was just thinking to myself that'd it be cool if WinCustomize had a place where you could upload partial skins. And then I realized it did... but no one seems to use the thing. Which is sort of a shame, as it seems like it could have quite some potential.

I for one have about 20 or so unfinished skins just laying around, because I'm too lazy to finish them. Usually happens when I get to the Shell Styles. These seem like they'd not only be a good learning tool, but also good for experienced authors who want to skin but don't care to go through the whole process. So, I'm curious why so few people use this section.

The section itself could do with some renovation. For one, it could be expanded to all the apps on WinCustomize (I also have probably a hundred or so unused icons lying around). Secondly, it could use a sort of collaboration system. A system that'd allow for multiple authors, when the skin is finally finished and uploaded. This way it counts towards both authors DL counts and whatnot. Newgrounds.com has a system similar to this, with both the flash itself and its music portal.

Any thoughts?

Hmmm...can't ya just finish like a couple of those 20? What's a couple more skins to a mindless puppet?

Then you can upload the rest and hope that whoever downloads your work will be able to put a finishing touch worthy of your skills.

I tend to get bored with things really easy. And when I'm in a creating type mood I let things get out of hand and get too far ahead of myself. At times I'd like to go back and fill in all the blanks, but the longer I wait the more blanks there are. Also, I get discouraged quite easy and scrap a lot of skins because they don't turn out quite how I wanted them: which doesn't make them bad skins, just skins I don't care to finish. I've restarted a skin I began while I was working on Dementaecon a total of three times now... and I'll probably restart it again if I ever get back to it... I'm fickle.

With widgets you'd have to breakdown each of them and create all the widgets. Another option is to yank the SKS info from the folder, zip the images and upload the zips to the graphics section. Others have done this before with unfinished skins. Note though, pretty much everything that goes into the Graphics library is freely useable by anyone in any type of skin. Most skinners would still credit you with the work, they just wouldn't have to ask permission to use your images.
