What's happened with wincustomize.

I think the site is just fine. Some of those folks are still here skinning, and there is some quite nice new work.

Due to continuing complaints the mods eased up a bit on wallpaper moderation. Hence some walls are now accepted that previously wouldn't have been. Apocalypse has been busy of late with personal matters, but still hangs out here and has been submitting WindowBlinds. Boxxi's still around, check out the GUI Olympics for his WB skins. Others drift in and out...perhaps they're posting at other sites like DevArt instead. I dunno.

People (artists) come & go. New artists tries to make WB skins. I enjoy the new & old artists. They're art is to stay.

Gee.What about WOM, you didn't mention him.

I think it's been less than 2 years. Probably 6-12 months, when the standards were lowered so that there would be less crying.

GA, Apoc, Lady Wolf and a bunch of other paper hangers were really doing some great walls. Most are still here and some new ones, like No Rules, xoxroth and a few others.

Just keep looking and I'am sure that you will find some good ones to download.

Unfortunately (as Sig101 mentioned) I have been really busy with personal issues. My girl remains in the hospital and I am overwhelmed with work (my job and my own) so I don’t have all the free time I had before. I also faded away from the wallpapers design since I became more involved with skinning, but I'm eager to pick it up again. I have a few unfinished projects that I want to finish, like the Edge Of Reality series (6 walls remain unfinished)
Adni has been busy as well but every now and then he manages to upload something. Boxxi is participating on the GUIO so I can imagine how busy he is. JrSaldana continues to upload, he is also very active at SkinBase and Art n' Skin. Queezendorf has been quiet for some time I'm not sure how busy he might be. GA is very active at DeviantArt, I know he was very busy after he moved off-base I have not see him here in a long while. I wish he would upload more here, his work is truly amazing.
And also as Sig101 mentioned, the flexibility on the moderation system has given way to less quality work compared to the work of let's say... 8 or so months ago.
And on a final note. Your work is missed as well. When I 1st came here, my designs were inspired by those that you mentioned and your self

It'd be more appropriate to gauge the current 'quality and uniqueness' of Wincustomize.com from its SKIN content, not that of its walls.

WC is a skinning site...which happens to have a wall section.  It is NOT a wall site which has skins as an afterthought.

There's a difference...

WC is unique not just for skins, but for a sense of community too. All the parts must work in order for the community to grow and to reach out to gain a greater sense of the Community as a whole. That jibberish doesn't make much sense. Change. Growth. Sometimes it hurts, but WC seems to be maturing gracefully. >

mmm, I really do not see any point in measuring this site and what it is by looking at the wall section or any specific section. The libraries are just that, libraries, a place that different content is stored which a person can make use of if they like it or not if they do not.

As far as the community end of it goes, the message board, news groups and irc, not including the IM chats and email passing are all a part of it. That has actually grown and expanded in a most positive way in my opinion. People are networking together on the GUIO 2004, people are helping each other out, people are enjoying time with others.

Hmmm, now that I look at this, I have to totally disagree overall...

Include the fact that this is a seriously hard time for many on a personal level because of economics, family and friends in the service, school, you name it, reality seeping in through the cracks and you get an idea of the possible reasons some do not show up much at times.

Not much different than a group of friends who find that they have grown up and now also have to fit life's responsibilities into the mix. Thing is, at times life gets heavy and takes a lot of time otherwise left free for the funs things, happens in cycles for me, dunno about anyone else...

When I first came to this site, I thought it was like Christmas and my Birthday all rolled up in one.
There were skins everywhere and I went crazy looking at all of them.
Now, it's kind of like having a slice of bread every hour for years.
It's the same site. Nothing has changed except me.
Yes, it might have lost a little of it's luster but it's just because I come here all the time.
Don't get me wrong. I love the site, it's just me that's getting old.

I think Z71 makes a good point - because the site has so much here, when all is new, everything is a wonder, but once you've satiated that initial enthusiasm, you're left waiting for the next great thing to re-kindle a flicker of that former glut, and you're left frustrated and wanting.

Sput : I fully understand Your point. I catch myself often enough waiting for THE skin to arrive.

Some very salient points in the above, and I think summed up perfectly by IPlural, Z71 and Old Crab.

I remember my excitement at finding this site. Hell, it was this site that made me go out and apply for a credit card to buy all the goodies.

The sense of "family" one gets when talking to folks on these boards, or in irc, is what keeps me coming back to this site on an almost daily basis. Every now and then you also get a wonderful surprise when excellent work has been uploaded.

Keep up the great work skinners, and this site will continue to be the best on the net.
