Problem with showing the start menu icon on the taskbar

After restarting Explorer in any way (via task manager or cmd), Start 11 apparently reapplies the styles to the taskbar. Previously (before versions 2.7), after restarting Explorer, the appearance of the taskbar was always restored normally, but now on all versions, after restarting Explorer, the custom appearance of the Start menu icon, which I set through Start 11, is not restored. I have to either restart Start 11, or go into the Start 11 settings and disable and then re-enable the transformation of the Start menu appearance - after that the icon is restored.

Please fix this so that after restarting Explorer, the icon on the Start button will also restore its appearance, as it was in previous versions.

Hello,

Sorry to hear you are having issues. First, please try, uninstall Start11, reboot immediately (important), download latest version available in your account product download page: https://store.stardock.com/myaccount/products. Install it, reboot immediately again. Retest it and report back.

If the issue still appear. We need few more details.

  1. Windows 11 full version and OS Build number. Please use Winver.exe to get this number.
  2. Start11 full version number currently installed.
  3. Start11 enhance taskbar turn on or off?
  4. Start11 autohide turn on or off?
  5. Issue appear with custom Start button or any start button graphics?
  6. Post a video would help us understand the issue better.

Thank you,

Basj,

Okay, I’ll add some information:

1) Windows 11 full version and OS Build number: 25H2 (26200.8655)
2)
Start11 full version 2.7.2.0
3) Start11 enhance taskbar turn on or off? - off
4)
Start11 autohide turn on or off? - off
5)
Issue appear with custom Start button or any start button graphics? - in both cases

I also noticed the following patterns:
1) If you enable "allow Start 11 to modify the taskbar" in Start 11, then the icon is always updated
2) I use two monitors on my computer. The icon does not update if any program is open full screen on my second non-primary monitor. If there are no open programs on the second screen, or they are there but are in windowed mode, the icon is immediately updated. If I restart Explorer when there is a program open in full screen on the second monitor, the icon will not update, but as soon as I minimize all the programs on the second monitor that are open in full screen and I see my desktop, the icon will immediately update. Icons work and update or do not update synchronously on both monitors.

When I recorded a video, the icon also did not reload, even when I minimized the window on the second monitor. But after I stopped screen recording, the icon was immediately updated if the window was minimized on the second monitor - apparently screen recording also interferes with updating the icon.

Just to confirm, you already done the uninstall, reboot, reinstall, reboot steps I've suggested above, yes?

Also, I noticed you have Wallpaper Engine, running in the background or some other animated wallpaper manager. As a test, try disable it and only use normal Windows wallpaper, Restart explorer and see if the issue still appear. Try that and report back.

Yes, I already tried a clean reinstallation with deleting the registry of Start 11, restarted the computer.

I tried disabling all background processes, including Wallpaper Engine and so on - the problem remains exactly the same as I described.

Did you try on a new admin account as recommend when doing Clean boot test? Refer here for Clean boot test steps: https://support.stardock.com/space/SHC/1334935592/Start11+Clean+Boot. Try it and report back.

I tried Clean boot - still the same.

I also tried this with windows that are opened as an administrator or in the usual way - no changes regardless of the administrative rights of the window, it still only affects opening the window on the second monitor in full screen.

Hi D!emonic, thank you for posting.

It seems like if the enhanced taskbar is Off, this issue can reproduce.  I will have this logged.

Internal reference: ODNT-12464

As a workaround for now, if you turn "Let Start11 enhance the taskbar" to ON, does that allow you to keep your custom Start button?
