Remember my 205/180 Blood pressure?

Well, it looks like it was my job the whole time as the conclusion to my pressure. At work there is not only allot of pressure to perform, there is a whole lot of other things going on there. It is a very bad environment. I don't even know where to start with the issues.

For one, most of the time I feel like when I go there I might not return. Not because so much of some wanton act but because of stupidity and lack of care.

I was told that I should let out the feelings I am having and I am.... I think I will write a list of things that bother me about the place I work. Most people who end up staying just get used to it, but I don't know if I can.

I have to try to stop thinking about things that are beyond my control.

Somebody sounds like my husband! Don't risk your health for the sake of a job if you can help it. Money does you no good if you're dead. Start looking around, applying and when someone calls you tell those folks what they can do with their job!

What kind of work of work do you do that causes you that mush stress?

Let's try "much stress?"

I am a security officer in a New York City Jewish museum.

While that didn't bother me being after 9/11 there are a few people in there that make the job real tough. At times I start thinking about all the things done wrong, people drinking while on the job, lack of training for other officers, an atmosphere of disdain between the company I work for and the museum chief security officer, the building being designed for a different use, lack of security officers, too much over time and pressure to do it....

and it keeps going like that...

I was thinking about all of that and how I could get hurt (or someone else) basically because of politics and lack of action.

For a while I really felt it was only a matter of time before someone will get hurt or major damage would be done at the museum. I kept that inside of myself because I had to go to work. I haven't worked in almost 2 years, so I needed the job.

Now school is falling behind, and I am stressed out mostly because I kept thinking about how I could go to work one day at the museum and because of stupidity (massive amounts of it) I could get hurt.

Joe, that's a shame. What could be a really interesting job is made so dangerous because of dirty politics and/or lack of empathy. Believe me when I say I know how you feel, where I live is number 1 in the state for corrupt government and the state is number 1 in the nation for that corruptness. Law enforcement here is a joke to the administrators, a cop is killed/injured almost weekly it seems. You have the training and comittment, find somewhere that you can, at least, feel secure in your backup. Hang in there and look elsewhere until you can quit. I wish you good luck and good health.

She's right. Hillbilly had similar experience, down to the signs and symptoms of heart attack. Turned out to be job related stress. definately don't risk your health.
don't bottle it up, express what upsets you, (at work, respectfully of course) , and release it.
start devoting time to do things you enjoy and that relax you, when you are away from work.

One thing I've learned is that you can't control other people, what they think,do,or say. The only person you can control is you! And no one else can control what you think. Don't let the poor actions and attitudes of others tear you up. Each of us has to make the decision at some point to take control of our thoughts and lives. If you can't leave that job right now for financial reasons I understand. But in the meantime you have to decide that they won't force you to live in stress. I've lived through some pretty stressful times and been in some miserable jobs and always at some point I had to decide to take control of my situation and get my life back.
I know this is running long, but what others have said is true. No job is worth your health! Find whatever you have to to get some release, even if it's taking out your frustrations here! Best of luck to you!

Thanks guys, some of what you said is what others have told me. I finally spoke to someone about what I am seeing and quite frankly I do feel better. Being that I am also taking a little break from the site for a while I should be able to come back and not think so much about what is not happening at my job.

Even though I still hold, truthfully, that sooner or later someone is going to get hurt because of these practices (like the drunk supervisor not making an announcement to the people in the building when the fire alarm went off AND who somehow froze the fire panel such that it kept going off and the fire department came to the museum twice AND the fire panel had to be turned off for 3-4 hours for the whole building because if kept going off)

This is defiantly on other people not me and I can not fix it so I should try to stop worrying about it. I already started looking for a new job with more normal everyday problems.

Being that I am on the subject of health, I have to get wisdom teeth removed. is that actually a major operation like one doctor told me or a simple procedure?

I am a little scared... my teeth don't hurt... aren't they supposed to hurt before they come out?

I'll scan the x-ray in tomorrow so you guys can see it. They say I have an impacted tooth and its growing right into my back tooth.

If I loose my wisdom teeth will I loose my brain power????

Joe if a wisdom tooth is impacted it will revert you back to about 2 years old when it does begin to hurt! You probably want to get that fixed before it starts hurting, I've heard that it's not a pleasant type of pain. It is a major thing because they have to knock you out but at least afterwards you will be relaxed for a good while.

Glad to hear you are starting to feel better about things. I would say definitely get the teeth pulled. If you leave them they eventually grow down and attach to your jaw bone. That happened to my mother and it was much more major than if she'd had them out when she was younger. Hope things keep looking up for you

Couldn't get teeth pulled...

It turns out that since they don't hurt and (and this is a big AND) that the teeth are sitting on a big nerve that if I got the operation I would have most likely lost feeling of my whole lower lip and mouth area.

So, in the end, no operation. Now I go back to the doctor and get my tooth with the hole in it filled.

In the mean time I will be relaxing at home taking time off from my job.

I got the x-rays and they are sooooo coooool!!! I'll scan it tomorrow and you see the hole and the 2 impacted wisdom teeth.

I wonder if I have a hole in my tooth from the stress of the job?

Couldn't get teeth pulled...

Joe, ever since I was 16 years old, dentists have been telling me that I should get my wisdom teeth pulled. Granted, my lower teeth are kind of crowded, but not so bad that my teeth are BAD. Dentists have always told me that some day, they'll cause me all kinds of grief, and I should get them out immediately. My response - When they cause me grief, I'll fix it. Till then, leave me the he** alone. I'm 53 now, and I still have all my teeth. Never, ever been a problem. Never, ever had a tooth pulled. If it don't hurt, don't fix it. I hope you have similar non-issues with your teeth.
