Fences 6 Installation Fails without error message - Win10 - 22H2

Hello,

I just purchased a Fences 6 License (5-pack) and I'm trying to get it installed on my primary PC.

Every time I run the installer, it briefly opens a couple of windows (I can see them appear on my taskbar) which are immediately closed without interaction. The Fences software is not installed and no error message is presented.

I have restarted my PC and re-downloaded the installer from Stardock. I have attempted to run the installer as admin (though my user account is already an administrator) and searched both these forums and Google for info but found no solutions.

In the Windows error logs I find an Application error, Event ID 1000, with the following content: (I have removed the user account name from the file path, replaced with ----)

Faulting application name: irsetup.exe, version: 9.7.0.0, time stamp: 0x66eaf76b

Faulting module name: unknown, version: 0.0.0.0, time stamp: 0x00000000

Exception code: 0xc0000005

Fault offset: 0xb3d516a9

Faulting process id: 0x900

Faulting application start time: 0x01dc3239ddecec07

Faulting application path: C:\Users\-----\AppData\Local\Temp\_ir_sf_temp_0\irsetup.exe

Faulting module path: unknown

Report Id: aa1d398e-0384-4ab4-8404-7dbb956613e0

Faulting package full name:

Faulting package-relative application ID:

That is the whole error log entry and I get it every time I run the setup.

I have checked the temp directory listed and found these files:

Encoding.lmd

eula.txt

GetMachineSID.exe

IRIMG1.BMP

IRIMG1.JPG

IRIMG1.PNG

Segoe UI_1.TFT

Stardock EULA.html

There is no irsetup.exe in the directory.

Please assist.

*edit - I have no antivirus running when attempting to install Fences. Controlled folder access is off.

Hello,
Sorry to hear you are having issues. Just as a test if you have Windows 10 pro version, please test install on Windows Sandbox, does the same issue appear? https://support.stardock.com/space/SHC/1416560645/Testing+Fences+in+Sandbox

Thank you,

Thank you for your reply.

After setting up Windows Sandbox (which was a more involved process than I had expected), I found what seems to be a resolution to my problem.

The installer ran fine from the sandbox.

I had moved the setup file for Fences to a new folder on my C:\ drive (C:\MyTemp) to share with the sandbox. Running the installer from that folder worked properly on my native Windows OS.

I don't know why that would be the case.

In any case, it is working and activated now.

Thank you.
