Pinning to the Windows 11 taskbar

I'm not sure if it matters, but I am using Start11.  

It seems impossible to pin a desktop item to the taskbar.

What am I doing wrong??

Hello,
Sorry to hear you are having issues. The easiest way to pin item on your taskbar is by running the app and while it is still running, right click on its taskbar button and select pin to taskbar.

If the Desktop item is specific document or file. Use the Taskbar pins->Pin file option.
