Top Downloads

Hey, can anyone tell me how this top downloads thing works?

Today my M4 Blackgreen WB skin isnt on the list, even though it was the second most downloaded WB skin yesterday. The one in the 4th place - Sportsman V2 is on the list instead.

So can anyone tell me how it works??

Thanks !!

when a skin gets like 500 downloads, (not mine) it is replaced my something else even though it has not half as many DL's. example resplandor

Top downloads are calculated from downloads by registered (logged in) members, rather than the total downloads which include downoads from both logged in and not logged in downloaders.

Well, I guess thats just too bad... For some reason I must have had about 180 more unregistered DL's than Sportsman V2. Strange though...!

pictoratus - ahhhh! That makes sense as it would avoid people registering many "anonymous" accounts to artifically try and boost their downloads....I wonder how many people have wasted ages trying though

There was also a problem with 'offsite' downloads. Hot-linking the download from other websites and even 'bots' being used to download skins to up the download count.

Desperate measures for desperate people

The number of downloads you see, must be of registered users then ??

That's exactly the reason that the present system was put into place, because of people abusing the previous system and falsifying their download counts. This way we get to keep an eye on IP addresses being used for downloading. It still happens to some extent, but we know who they are.........some people just have no honour............

losers. i can have like 70 different ips if i want, i use school computers to check my messages and all but i only have one account.

What about when multiple people come from behind the same NAT.

Ugoin↓ Just because you have 70 different IPs at school, doesn't mean they don't all look like one to Wincustomize. It depends on if your school is using a NAT or not.

I use a NAT at home, I have several computers, and we have multiple Wincustomize accounts. My kids download different things than do I. They have different tastes than I do.

I am writing this while on a break at work. We use a NAT at work. I know of other peers at work that download items from Wincustomize. There are 15,000 workers that are behind the firewall where I work.

Does the fact that these downloads come from what appears as 1 IP only count as 1 download?

I am not complaining. I think that the way you have it setup is only fair. I am just wondering.

here, we have a t3 connection i believe. there is one firewall per computer, its the symantec thingy, other than that, the puters are connected to the server which connects them to the t3. i am sure i am not the only one here that has a wincustomize account so that makes me wonder... anyway, i gotta get a subsc. here soon
