Multiplicity 4 Unable to switch computer to master control

Hi,

In Multiplicity 4, I am unable to switch a controlled device to a master device.

I clicked on the switch button in the lower left corner of the software interface, but nothing happens.

Please tell me what should I do to restore the software to normal?

Thanks.

Is the PC in question on the Internet or no, it is Internet isolated?  I ask as what is not happening is the activation prompt; that the PC is missing some common components that the activation plumbing requires.

You can try the silent activation on that PC but you are going to want to ensure you have already demoted your current Primary (by making it a Secondary and deactivating it when prompted).

I've actually experienced the same issue

Here is what I have noticed.

On my master control pc I have Multiplicty pro installed. But on each additional pc only regular Multiplicity installed. It only allows for one pc to actually have the pro version installed. So if I use the slider to change what pc has master control it doesn't work. If I ever want a different pc to become the master pc I have to deactivate my main pc manually from the stardock website and enter a license code to change the license for my secondary to make it the new master (pro version) and then reinstall multiplicity on old mater pc.

There appears to be no easy way to switch which pc is the current master PC using the primary pc switch with a Multiplicity pro license.

Basically to get a different pc switched over to your master, you would go your downloads section (on the website) and hit the 3 dots "..." by your product and deactivate multiplicity, then enter your license key on the pc you want to be your master. There is a change license option in the "about" section at the bottom of the settings menu. Your master pc should be the first pc that has that license entered.

To be clear, there is not a 'Pro and regular' version of the installer.  The key itself determines what it is, not the installer.

Following what I wrote there, 'only 1 Primary is allowed to be activated per license'.  What is odd is that the prompt to activate should still happen when one tries to promote a Secondary to a Primary, allowing you to demote the currently activated Primary in the process... To boot, this all needs to happen regardless if the user has finished creating an account.

If something is happening to usurp that, we would need to know.  We are testing it.

Perhaps a factor, at least for me, is that I have both an active object desktop subscription and a Multiplicty 4 pro license. Perhaps there is confusion which version is allowed to be on each computer.  I can not seem to enter the pro version license into more then one pc at a time, thus I can not use the primary / secondary slider to change my one active master pc.

This video details what should happen (and does in our tests).

So it is working with one small glitch, that after the promotion of the Secondary, activation, it is not updating the Primary \ Secondary switch or the MP UI.  One has to switch it manually again and it will work.

Again, it works but we have created an internal bug to have the one oddity addressed.

As for the OP, before you perform these steps, ensure that there is not a license.sig file here prior to doing it

C:\ProgramData\Stardock\Multiplicity  (note that this is ProgramData, not ProgramFiles)

If there are any files there, delete them then try...

Thanks Sean. The slider is working to change which is primary. But using your method I still have 2 different versions of multiplicity. When I activate multiplicity 4 via stardock account it will always default to my object desktop version so I can only use the KVM features on one actual pc.

When I go to the about section, one install says version 4 beta 3 pro, and the other version says just says version 4 beta 3 (without pro at the end)

When I switch my primary to the other pc the kvm is greyed out and says I need to upgrade to pro on that one. But on the other PC (the one the says "pro" at the end) KVM will work perfectly fine

You always want to use key \ password instead of your account credentials if there are mixed product tiers on your account.

If you just use email \ pass, the activation process will pick a license that has a free seat. Since MP4 base is included in the suite of products, it will be included in the rotation.

Also, Secondary PC will not report their product tier as they are never in an activated state.

Edit - I see KVM is only allowed on one pc at a time and needs to be activated / deactivated. At least now I understand how it works.

Different product tiers allow for different quantities of KVM connections, yes.
