Multiplicity 4 Installation

Installation does not complete successfully

I have been trying to install Multiplicity 4 on a second computer with the idea of trying it on two computers but it does not install.

On the first computer there were no problems but on this second one once it finishes installation a windows opens saying:  Multiplicity does not appear to be fully installed on this computer. Would you like to install it?
I accept the installation but it closes and does not initiate any reinstallation. Aboslutely nothing happens. If I go to the App and open it, it does all over the same, asking me if I want to install it, and then again fails to re-install it.
I am in Windows 10 Pro. I have already Reset Windows so it's a clean installation.
x64 basedPC. Processor Intel core i7, 6 cores   12 logical processors   24 GB Physical Memory
Display is NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 Ti.
I would really like to purchase Multiplicity but will do only if it works in these two computers.

Came here to post the same issue. Just bought the full suite, but can't get Multiplicity to install exactly as described above. I tried a solo Multiplicity installation, then a full install from Object Desktop. Both have the same problem.

Hello,
Sorry to hear you are having issues. Not sure what is going on, but, please try uninstall, reboot, re-download Multiplicity 4, install it, reboot immediately after installation is done. Retest and report back.

Thank you,

Basj,

I followed your suggestion to no avail. It again popped up a window after installation (that I presume did not finish sucessfully)

saying:   Multiplicity does not appear to be fully installed on this computer. Would you like to install it?

I said no this time. And after a reboot, I clicked on Multiplicity icon on the Apps but it opened the same window. If I say yes, it does not install.

Clearly you both have something in common.  Some questions for each of you.

Try deleting the Multiplicity install from your download folders and going to your account page to download a new copy and install it.

https://store.stardock.com/myaccount/products

If that fails..

Is the Secondary x86 or ARM?

Have Multiplicty 3 (or earlier) ever been installed and worked before?

I assume 'Resetting' Windows means a fresh format and install. Has it been fully brought up to date?

How old is the Secondary PC (main the CPU)...?  Before 2015?

Each installation has a log Multiplicity Setup Log.txt file here (copy \ it into WIndows Explorer)

%UserProfile%\AppData\Local\Temp

Please upload it to a shared cloud drive or your choice and paste a shared link in a reply with your other answers.

My answers in bold below:

1. https://store.stardock.com/myaccount/products      DONE LIKE 6 TIMES. SAME RESPONSE AS DESCRIBED ABOVE.

2. Is the Secondary x86 or ARM?     The computer is a desktop X64  (See txt file  Stystem info

Download it from here:
https://mega.nz/file/ogljwISY#jwel981Ym9S3xLfIabKfiFQfUM5p56f1qQLYuz2tkho

3. Have Multiplicty 3 (or earlier) ever been installed and worked before?  NO

I assume 'Resetting' Windows means a fresh format and install. Has it been fully brought up to date?
Resetting Windows done by Re-installing windows  using the Reset this PC feature. but not with fresh format. Means my personal files remained. Most applications were removed, a few remained.  I cannot format the hard disk unless I remove first all my files and  I am ready to delete some programs.  This is a very powerful machine with lots of memory and processing power. No program installation has ever responded like this. There is only one problem with Windows at the moment: Windows Updates is showing error when trying to connect to Windows server to download updates.  I have also done a  scan of possible corrupted Windows files
using
sfc /scannow   but the results were no files corrupted, so Windows does appear OK except for the update problem.

How old is the Secondary PC (main the CPU)...?  Before 2015?  Yes, probably 2010 but no other program has failed to install in this computer,

including programs like  Any Desk that does the same Multiplicity does. (control desktops)

Each installation has a log Multiplicity Setup Log.txt file here (copy \ it into WIndows Explorer)

%UserProfile%\AppData\Local\Temp

Here is the installation log

For your info

I have justre-installed AnyDesk (was in this computer before resetting it) and it works with absolutely no problems at all.
Unless the installation of Multiplicity works flawlessly without me having to do a lot of troubleshooting on the computer, I am going to stay with AnyDesk, just to waste less time.

I am sure it is a phenomenal piece of hardware.  That said, something is wrong somewhere, and it certainly could be the installer - we just need to find out what.

I wish product comparisons were helpful here - they are not...

Since you have Windows 10 Pro, it is capable of firing up a Windows Sandbox.  If you enable that, and install Multiplicity 4 successfully in it, does the onboarding experience run - or no, you get the same error?

Same installation issue on an older computer.

"Incorrect Installation detected" and that's it, uninstalling properly, deleting files manually, removing keys, rebooting, installing vcredistx64 manually and so on do not solve the issue.

System specs : X58 (Asus Rampage II) Motherboard with Intel Core i7 Extreme 980X (Windows 10 Pro x64 22H2 19045.5011)

Multiplicity 3 was running without any issue before the update to Multiplicity 4 Pro.

Sent installation log in PM if you want the full version @sdrohan, but everything looks fine except for :

1: [10/13/2024 17:41:06] Error        Script: On Startup, Line 615 (1605)

2: [10/13/2024 17:41:07] Error        Script: On Startup, Line 461 (37003)

3: [10/13/2024 17:41:11] Error        Script: On Pre Install, Line 122 (1605)

(rest of the log is Success / Info / Skipped / Notice / Debug)

Note : The 2 first error also show up on a working installation of MP4 (checked the PCs were I had no issue)

But the last one (Script: On Pre Install, Line 122 (1605)) is only showing up on the PC with an issue.

edit:

Tried to install MP4 inside the sandbox on the machine with the issue, result is exactly the same (incorrect installation)

When you search 'Services' on any given non-working PC, open it.  Is the 'Multiplicity Service' running and set to 'Automatic'

If it's not running, and you start it manually, does it start (hit F5 after you start it to refresh)?  If it starts, are you able to progress with MP4?

If it does not start, is there an error entry in Event Viewer?  Does whatever AV software you use (on both) have logs of it blocking anything?

On non-working PCs, Multiplicity Service do not exist, it's not in the Services list.

Tried to re-install with Windows AV turned off, no change.

When I try to install, 2 errors are created in Event Viewer (Application Error Event ID 1005 & 1000) :

Windows cannot access the file  for one of the following reasons: there is a problem with the network connection, the disk that the file is stored on, or the storage drivers installed on this computer; or the disk is missing. Windows closed the program Multiplicity Service because of this error.

Is the cpu an intel 2xxx, 3xxx or 4xxx one? These date from 2009-2014 so 10-15 years old now.

It so the problem is it doesn't support the newer instruction set we moved to with v4.  We did this because it offers significant performance benefits especially with encryption on large amounts of data like KVM or file transfers.

It should fallback to the 32 bit version but there is an error in beta 1 where if your cpu supports AES-NI but not AVX2 it incorrectly thinks you can use the 64 bit build rather than the 32 bit fallback version.

This is being addressed for a new build next week.

That is my issue then.

My CPU (LGA1366 Core i7 980x) is from 2010 which do not support AVX or AVX-2 but does support AES-NI.

Thanks for the information.

So, that should be my issue too,. Surely my machine is from 2010.  Please post here to us when the new build is issued.

Thanks for all

Same result but perhaps a different cause.  Something is seemingly preventing the install of the service.

Try creating a temporary Windows Administrator account, installing under it, and if it works, try to use the product under your normal account.

The problem here is it may never be fixed as the issue in this original thread was resolved a long time ago.

You have similar symptoms but probably an entirely different cause and we have no other reports of this.
