LiteStep Help

tho i am no master at litestep. "theres to many builds to keep up with", i will answer any questions i can.

First before you install litestep remember to read all the documentation you can. litestep.com is a good start. Second if u install litestep and then want to remove litestep, set the shell back to explorer FIRST....then uninstall litestep...if you dont set explorer back as the shell before uninstall litestep u will have NO visible desktop on restart....in the litestep folder look for a "set shell to explorer" icon use this to set shell back to the windows default desktop. then reboot and uninstall litestep....

here is where u can get more documentation as well as the latest build. http://beyondconvention.net/ohussain/lsinstaller/index.htm i recommend useing the latest build as they are the most stable..

Hey, I have a Question...Im skeptical about this lite step..But I guess I have to have it to make my desktop taskbar look like HG Eliminators, so I better learn now.. Is it possible to still use Window Blinds while I am using the lite step.? Also is it possible to use Object dock with lite step.. And finally, Do I have to turn off all these programs before I try to run lite step.? I hope you can come through with this information..I have been reading the sites that u suggested.. However, I just want some good hard advice..

There is no problem running windowblinds while using Litestep. In fact the two can compliment each other quite nicely. Many Litestep themes are ports of Windowblinds skins. I currently use the two together (and have for many years running).

I haven't used Objectdock so hopefully someone else can fill you in on that one.

LiteSTEP is a shell, just as Explorer.exe is the 'default' shell....it is the interface between the user and the OS kernel.

Desktop, icons, taskbar, clock, start menu....all of that can be totally replaced....hotspots, virtual desktops, animations, links/shortcuts....it's all that makes up the actual GUI - Graphic User Interface......that which separates Windows from Dos command lines....

For new users especially, I would recommend the Litestep distro called the "litestep Installer v3.02".
You should be able to find it here: http://beyondconvention.net/ohussain/lsinstaller/

It is a very complete installer. It comes with an un-installer. It also puts an icon on your desktop called "set explorer as shell". If for some reason (??) you don't want to keep Litestep:

Click on the "set explorer" icon. (do this first!)
Then run the uninstaller (it's in the start menu under Litestep).
Then you will likely be prompted to reboot.

And that's it, your back to normal explorer.
So its pretty clean.
Have fun!

well, first things first; which version of litestep have you installed? That will determine the method needed to install themes.

Wait...Oh My Dear Lord....Ok... I tried to install a theme that I downloaded....then I clicked on the Icon for setup...It started downloading modules and then my desktop crashed...It was Gone Man ...I was looking at nothing...Thank goodness I had a mouse with a quick button to open a file..I had to go through that to reset to my default theme which put the desktop back,,,,What happened and what should I do to install themes... >

First rule.

Take time to read and learn.

Far better than having a shell crash...

What happened and what should I do to install themes...

hard to tell, unless you provide more information. guess you tried an older theme that isn´t following current standards. this is something you should currently avoid until you get more familiar with the program.

you got the LiteStep installer from Pharoe´s link in post #12, right?

before trying a new theme check wether it is OTS2 compliant. this is usually stated in the description of the theme. also check wether you have the required OS to run a theme, some features need Windows 2K or XP and don´t work on 9x/ME.

i may add that the LiteStep docs are written in a far better English than the answers (like mine) you will get on a messageboard. have a look at them.

Yes....I downloaded from the link you describe above.....And yes I have Windows XP...And it is OTS2 compliant .....I tried to install thru lite step/change themes/install theme/then browse for downloaded file.....Its says that it can run because of a problem...Then I click on the "check to see where the problem occured *and it takes me to what looks like "note pad" with lots of big FONT that I dont quite understand....Any repl...I will be more my next post..
ok, last try: provide more information!

what theme? provide a link to that theme.

"Its says that it can run because of a problem" - that does not make sense at all. what exactly does "it" (a message box?) say?

"and it takes me to what looks like "note pad" with lots of big FONT that I dont quite understand" - that makes no sense either. you don´t understand it ... fine ... how should anybody else understand it when you don´t say what message you get? take a screenshot of "what looks like "note pad"".

csurfside... another way to tackle this, is to install a theme that I know works.

Seeing as we are already here (wincustomize) grab my theme PixOffice from the litestep section.
Install it the same way you described before.
Let us know how it worked.
Yea...I downloaded pixstudio..and it works....Good job.. Please tell me how to take a desktop screen shot...I dunno..?
