Fences goes wrong when using with Wallpaper Engine

I used Fences 5 together with Wallpaper Engine. It used to be fine, but recently, the background of Fences become my system wallpaper instead of the wallpaper on Wallpaper Engine. Is there a way to solve it?

Hello,
Sorry to hear you are having issues. Need to know more on your system.

  1. Windows 10 or 11? And its version and full build number. Use Winver.exe
  2. Fences full version number installed.
  3. Video or Screenshot of your issue will help us understand it better.

Thank you.

Hi Basj,

I tried to restart my Windows Explorer, and the problem is still there.

Please try purge and reinstall steps as mention here : [Link]. Just make sure to redownload the latest version from your account page. Reboot after the purge. Reinstall and reboot again after the installation. Retest and report back here.

Thank you,

Hi Basj,

I tried the purge and reinstallation as instruction. However, the problem is still there after I reinstall Fences.

In Fences 5, if you disable 'Chameleon', does it then work as you would hope?

Hi Sean Drohan,

Thank you for your suggestion. However, I did not enable the Chameleon. I tried to turn it on and off, the problem is still there.

Just as a test, if you uninstall WPE, reboot, and then set your background to a static color in Windows:

Does it then work as you would expect with and without Chameleon enabled?

If you then set a photo as background, does it work?

If you then install WPE with the very default settings does it work?

If not, and you have Chameleon and 'blur' off in Fences, does it work?

If you edit the transparency to fully fill the Fence, and select a color, does the Fences fill?

Hi Sean,

I have tried your suggestions. It seems there is something wrong with the blur option. I get this option when I have the blur option on; it will show the system background instead of my wallpaper set by WPE. When the blur is off, the problem gone. Thanks for your suggestion, Now at least I can use fences without blur.

Cheers,

To be clear, you can have Chameleon on, but have to have blur off under 'Personalization', correct?  Or no, you have to have both off?

I had a similar issue before when using Fences with Wallpaper Engine. What worked for me was to make sure that Wallpaper Engine is set to run as administrator. Also, try disabling Fences temporarily, set your Wallpaper Engine wallpaper, and then re-enable Fences.

As a bump, if turn off blur with Fences 5 it works with wallpaper engine. With WPE I can't use chameleon or blur otherwise it just shows the system wallpaper.

Thats normal.

Ah. Kind of makes me regret paying to upgrade to fences 5 if I can't use one of the primary features. Hopefully this will be fixed as I doubt I'm the only user of WPE and the platform wasn't meant to have it excluded.
