Is IOBit ASC deleting my custom icons?

I use IOBit Advanced System Care to clean my Windows 10 PC. Part of that cleaning is registry; is that why the icons I set with IconPackager mess up? Some go back to the default and some go back to earlier icons I set with IconPackager. On the worst days, the whole lot go white.

Hello,
Sorry to hear you are having issues. That probably it. I don't use IOBit, you might need to set it not to change on icons setting.

Thank you.

A generally good rule to follow is to make a registry/system backup before using a "cleaner". That said, could be Icon Packager. If you can, don't use the registry cleaner, purge Icon packager, reboot, run

sfc /scannow

from an elevated command prompt and after it completes, reinstall it. Then don't use the registry cleaner again unless you inspect each key before ok'ing it.

From their site:

Advanced SystemCare

- Registry Cleaner

Burrows its way throught the registry to identify, suggest and repair errors. Deep Clean can improve operating system performance and stability by preventing Windows crashes and error messages.

It's not really necessary to use a Registry cleaner. They usually cause more harm than good. Most apps remove their registry settings when uninstalled, and those that don't set harmlessly in the registry. As Doc said, if you feel it necessary to run the Registry cleaner, pay close attention to what it intends to remove!

I've uninstalled IOBit ASC in favour of CCleaner as I don't trust Microsoft with my privacy and want to be able to have a PC that doesn't glitch. I tried 7TSP Icon thing but that doesn't work at all. I guess I'll have to ask CCleaner if there's a way to NOT clean a few dll's. Otherwise I'll go without. With respect, all of this Stardock software seems to have problems, is it all old or something?

I used Wise Care 365, (free version), so far no weird issue from it.

Thank you,

I don't trust Microsoft with my privacy

A wise decision.

You might want to look at this:

Also, you might want to look at Revo uninstaller (free version) instead of CCleaner as CCleaner had its own privacy issue in the past.

I too use Wise Care 365 Premium, it gives No Icon errors after using it. I also use Crap Cleaner, but always watch what Registry results are Given, It Usually says what is safe to clean and what is not, but i still use my own Judgement when dealing with the results, After time you will get an idea of what is best to clean and what is not.

I also use Crap Cleaner

Bulk crap cleaner is a 100 Mb heavy weight...you really need a bigger like that one...most folks could prob get away with Revo free (Revo portable is ~ $25 for an unlimited number of computers)...

I have used Wise Care 365 and Crap Cleaner For Years Now Doc, i have become used to the results its gives and any clean ups its attempts, I have tried other things on recommendation but come back to them both, they work for me without issues, and i do not have to worry about Heavy weight MBs as my Computer is Very Fast, Packed Full Of Ram, Fast M2 SSDs with Gigabit Broadband.

Mr-Spex, I would think it will be trial and error finding a System Cleaner to perfectly suit your needs, I am sure you will get to were you need to be as there are plenty out there.  You can stick with C cleaner as you have said, just remember to look at each clean up list it gives and either untick anything connected to Icons, or Exclude the scan settings itself connected to Icons, Best Luck To You.

Thank you everyone, you've been great. I appreciate your time.

I have ditched IOBit but I think I'll also ditch CCleaner and go with the MS PC Cleanup thing they brought out recently,  that will leave me to delete my Chrome history but that's better than my icons going missing.

As for WiseCare365 I did try that but it said I had something on my PC that is 15GB but that's not correct as I deleted that ages ago (same thing appears in Windows' own Remove Programs but has no Uninstall option),
