Fences 5.04 Release Feedback Thread

With the Fences 5.04 release, we are creating this thread so that users can report any observed issues.  

Obtaining the product

Object Desktop members can get the release from within Object Desktop Manager 

Individual purchases (as well as Object Desktop Members) can also be obtained from your account page: https://store.stardock.com/myaccount/products

Reporting an issue

Please include the following for anything found:

  • Exact Windows version \ build (winver.exe)

  • Detailed steps to recreate the issue seen

  • Screenshots and videos are very helpful.  Videos can be uploaded to a cloud drive service (GoogleDrive, DropBox, OneDrive, YouTube), with a shared link included in your post.  Images can be copied and pasted directly into a post.

  • If there are specific apps that the app does not work (well) with, please note what apps and their exact versions.  If any app is not common, a link to a trial version would be appreciated.

I Can never get my Fences to align perfectly even Can you fix it so that it automatically sticks to one Grid Method. I would Like them to be able to be set like it is by pixels but I want it to snap perfectly so my grids aren't aligned all wonkey. It really is bothering the aesthetic look of the desktop.

First time poster.....

Here are my existing issue I'm having with fences. Love the program but the bugs are becoming a pain.

There's enough threads out there regarding multiple monitor assignments and icon placement. Which of course is one of my issues. 

1. System always chooses to move my icons from the primary monitor onto my secondary monitor. Whether the secondary monitor is on or off. 

2. Leaving the computer on without going into standby using (extreme power mode) but shutting off the monitors still pushes the icons to the secondary monitor by default whether off or on. When i turn the displays back on.

New issues with new program icons after installation. 

1. Program icons are displayed on my secondary monitor after installation. When i try to drag them from the secondary monitor onto my primary monitor. The icon either disappears or the fence window im trying to drag them to causes all fences windows to close and need to reboot to restore the fence windows. 

2. On another note, If I'm able to drag and place the icon into the folder. Upon a reboot these icons are again back on my desktop and not in the fences folder I placed them in. Plus, there are times the icons disappear and may not show up on the desktop until a few reboots happen.

 

Not sure if anyone else is having this fence folder/icon disappearance.

Seems this all started when version 5 came out. 

Of course, willing to help to troubleshoot this issue so it can be a thing of the past. 

Let me know what information you would need from me to collect any data.

  1. Need to know your Windows 10/11 full version numbers. Use Winver.exe
  2. Fences version installed.

Hi im having an issue creating fences i tried on fences 4 and tonight i installed fences 5 but still same problem,

i try to drag a fence but dosent show up, the only time i can make  dotted line  is within a created fence or around desktop icons 

Windows version :  23H2 Build 25967

This reads like you are inadvertently evoking 'Pages'.  As a test, turn it off and see if you can reproduce it

Yes, that look normal, and its the same as what I have. From what I know, Fences need to be loaded twice for it to work properly.

Since the latest WIndows 10 Pro (Version 22H2 OS Build 19045.4170) update,  Fences (5.0.4.1) keeps saying "Your fences license has expired. Please select one of the below options."

Enter Product Key

Purchase Product Key

I enter the product key and activate successfully but at logon it asks again. Same if I just click on Fences. I have re-installed Fences 5.0.4.1 but the result is the same.

Suddenly I cannot make a new fence on the desktop.  I drag to make a rectangle and am not give the option to create a new fence.  

 

Anyone have the problem or an idea of how to fix it?

Sorry to hear you are having issues. Please try purge and reinstall steps as mention here : [Link]. Just make sure to redownload the latest version from your account page. Reboot after the purge. Reinstall and reboot again after the installation. Retest and report back here.

The issue was resolved.  I had locked the Fences and thus could not create the new one as is normal.
