Stardock announced the latest iteration of its hit political strategy series, The Political Machine 2024 today. The game, which allows players to simulate a run for the American presidency, features an updated roster of politicians and introduces new gameplay mechanics that reflect the ever-evolving landscape of U.S. politics.

The Political Machine 2024 allows players to step into the shoes of current political figures like Joe Biden, Donald Trump, Bernie Sanders, and Ron DeSantis, or create a completely customized candidate with the game’s in-depth creation workshop.

Building on the series’ robust political simulation model, which has been recognized by major news outlets for its accuracy in predicting previous election outcomes, the 2024 edition adds some much-requested features including:

  • Primaries: Players can choose to run against other candidates to win their party’s nomination for President.
  • Debates: Candidates will face each other in a simulated debate on the issues of the day.
  • PACs: Political Action Cards that players can use to bolster their campaign or thwart their opponents.

At its core, The Political Machine 2024 is a sophisticated simulator, where each state's political leanings and issues are meticulously researched and updated to reflect the latest demographic data and current political climate. Players with a deep understanding of the real-world political landscape will discover a game that rewards strategic thinking and political savvy.

"The Political Machine has always been about capturing the spirit and complexity of the American election cycle," said Brad Wardell, Creative Director of Stardock. "With the 2024 edition, we're bringing even more depth to the experience with new features that mirror the real-world tactics used in political campaigns."

Stardock invites players to explore the nuances between candidates within the same party, appreciating the ideological spectrum that differentiates a Democrat like Bernie Sanders from one like Bill Clinton, or a Republican like Ronald Reagan from Mitt Romney.

The Political Machine 2024 is slated for release early next year but is available now for pre-order on Steam and includes a free pre-order bonus, the 'Cabinet of Curiosities' DLC.

So from what I'm reading, it looks like the upcoming game roster is going to look something like this. I wonder if all the candidates from 2020 are returning, because with primaries being a big feature, it would only make sense to get as much variety as possible.

**Confirmed Candidates:**

Donald Trump (homestate is listed as NY, but last game it was FL)

Joe Biden

Sarah Palin

Bernie Sanders

Amy Klobuchar

Ronald Reagan (mentioned)

Mitt Romney (mentioned)

Bill Clinton (mentioned)

**New Candidates:**

Vivek Ramaswamy

Ron DeSantis

Chris Christie (returning from 2016)

Nikki Haley (returning from 2016)

Seems like RFK Jr and Marianne Williamson is another obvious pick going by how Political Machine chooses their candidates. Wonder if we'll see any remnants from the candidate architect idea that was promised in 2020. Cornel West seems like another obvious candidate that has grown his profile immensely as a third party candidate. Really looking forward to some more minority inclusions on the Republican side, Vivek is a good start, so I guess I wouldn't be wrong to guess Tim Scott is going to be next. Love what I have seen so far!!!

Assuming No Labels gets any steam, it could be interesting to see how speculative no-labels candidates would fare in this game, as they'd have interesting ideology trees. This might be a random idea, but Tucker Carlson and Cenk Uygur can always make their appearance in this game as firebrand candidates perhaps? I'm sure YouTubers would get a kick out of those. Who knows. But I always have my hopes on a Joe Manchin appearance for centrist gameplay whatever he may decide to do this upcoming election season.

Hoping advertisements actually affect issues more, since they barely did so in 2020, and were good for some regional awareness if anything that would amplify with awareness, they always got trumped in cost-effectiveness by speeches, in that game. Hopefully interviews are more about expressing stances on the issues with every answer having its own risk/reward base, instead of being a memorization game to get the most ideology points out of every interview. Hoping that intelligence is put to good use in debates and interviews in this game and can be used to formulate powerful strategies of its own, where-as the current strategy is to just invest heavily in media bias and stamina, at the expense of everything else.

As long as this game fixes the issues with intelligence, charisma, and experience, then I think we'll be on a very great path for what will be a definitive sequel. Can't wait to see how experience enmeshes with operative, political action card strategies. Here's to hoping debates are a whole mini-game on its own that appears online that can make or break races.

4-5 person multiplayer online is going to be nothing short of sick. If this game takes off big, I think it'll have an amazing base.

Wonder if we'll see the campaign feature make a comeback in this game as it was another promised feature in 2020 that never came to fruition, but that could've been fun for unlocking potential.

But most importantly, the potential of the workshop! More candidate customization features seem promising. I'd be very inclined to see if maps/scenarios is somewhere down the line on the roadmap, with the potential to play various election scenarios online. It'd be the perfect way to expand replayability for another 4 years to come. Because I think this game has that potential 😀

Please consider a few suggestions.

1.       Make modding of ideologies easier. I know you have posted instructions on how to use a program, but it is too difficult. I also tried to use the below downloadable tool that somebody talked about on YouTube. It didn’t work. My eyes are poor, and I’m autistic. Modding ideologies should be fun and accessible. It should be done within the gameplay itself in the same way we create a customized candidate.

2.       Please include third parties and independents.

3.       I made this suggestion once before. Congressional coattails. Will Biden win re-election by a large enough margin to recapture the House and add seats to the Democratic Senate Caucus? Which Republican candidate could carry the Republicans to a trifecta where they gain the White House, protect their House majority, and gain the Senate? How will a candidate’s likability and ideology tree affect the down ballot races?

4.       You should have the ideology tree AND the old endorsement by special interests again.

5.       Please bring back JFK, FDR, LBJ, Woodrow Wilson, Abraham Lincoln, Teddy Roosevelt, Ulysses S Grant.

6.       Add some historical scenarios.

7.       Bring back the old headquarters system.

8.       Unlock candidates through campaigns.
