Regulars

There are many regular posters here at the messageboard. At some other sites acknowledgement is given to those based on their number of posts. I don't completely think that an idea like that would carry over correctly here, but I'd like to see something of that nature implemented. Perhaps a new title for those like kona, xaltec or I who frequent the forums, but have not attained the apprentice status. We might not be as helpful as say Yrag or are rooted here like WOM, but we try.

I wouldn't mind except all of the normal titles for a citizen just don't look good with my nick and I'd like to have something in front of my name to make me feel special. I have strange needs.

ps I know I haven't been here as long as a lot of you guys, but I like it here and intend to stay.

Some suggestions are:
"Idiot","Troll","Wincustomite","Boarder","Regular","Killer","Dawg", "Gorilla","Clown","Ugly",...you get the idea, just something to spice up my life.

Back to the Member Rankings!

If purchasing a subscription or ODNT doesn't affect your ranking, why is there an option to cross-reference your profile with Stardock? Just to keep track with you, or it is for admins and mods only?

it does. buying a stardock product gives you a rank of 3
buying a wincustomize subscription gives you a rank of 4

however in both cases you are still a citizen. and can only choose from the titles given for a citizen. you gotta do stuff to get to a higher title

while these may not look like regualr message boards. avatars and sigs can get to be a little over bearing. iv seen many boards go to the %^$$er cause of massive sigs . not to mention adding another thing the admins have to moderate...

IMHO,

/me thinks it makes the MSGBD start to look cheap.

+ uses more of that bandwidth which means the site might need more money.
Everything comes with a price.

I like the message board setup at Naval Air Station Tillamook. Clean and crisp.

Friendliness is my favorite thing about Wincustomize

Back when there were 300,000 or less members, I remember when we started a BS thread and within the first 10 min, there were about 200 posts. Almost everyone got along. You still had that 1/2 of 1% that didn't get along with anyone, but talk about friendly. Very very few links of self-promotion of their newly uploaded works and no (or I can't rememberof any) one wondering why they hadn't gotton promoted. But I guess times change.

WOM....I think your memory might be a tad rusty....all the things we get now we got then....but with fewer members there were fewer board contributors....

Maybe Jafo, but if so, you'll get there. Remember, your right behind me>

Speaking of friendliness, it makes you wonder about people who start complaining threads like that one locked recently. Appalling. Whatever happened to kindness and respect?

When I started using the message board I didn't think about rank or anything. I didn't care for any title, so I figured out how to remove it. When people had problems that I could help with, I did. Then one day I found that I was an apprentice. I was really surprised. I thought it was a mistake! But it felt good to get the recognition. Not because I was here long enough, or because I posted X number of posts. It was because someone, somewhere thought my contribution mattered. That really felt good. To this day, I don't think I would appreciate it the same if it were some automatic thing.

BTW, having the rank comes with some extra responsibilities. It isn't about how people look at you, or how you look at yourself. It is about how responsibly you deal with the privileges. I have learned a lot. And there have been times that I wished I didn't have the rank. I am learning, even now, how to assume the added responsibilities in a fair and just manner.

Getting a rank isn't about looking good on some message board. or some ego boost to yourself, or some status symbol to mark you from someone newer. It's about a whole lot more. For me, it is a whole new level of care and responsibility, commitment to the artists and patrons of the site, thoughtful and erudite application of judgement...

now I feel bad about starting this thred. I just wanted a title of "gorilla" in front of my name. Oh well this thread sure has progressed a long way.

¼Crazy Travis ™ , I thought it was a nice suggestion. It doesn't have to be a status thing, just some extra cute little things for us commoners to use along with the standard ones offered ( citizen, sir, miss ... you know 'em).

Hmmmmm. "Old Crab" says it all. Nothing needs to be added...at all. Thank you very, very, much. >
