Custom Civilization Issue Under 1.89.498038.2

I started a new game under 1.98.498038.2 and my custom civilization was no longer there.  No problem, I would just create a new custom civilization.  However, when I choose the default race of my citizens, save my new civilization, then go back in to edit some of the settings, my default race is the Drath.  No matter what race I choose, after I save my civilization my default race is the Drath.

What happened???  I want to be the Luxar, not the Drath!

After trying a number of default races with no success, I just started another game and this time my citizens were all Luxars!

I do not know what is going on, but something is not right.

Did you verify files?

Do not get mad for me asking, if you did.

I and others have noticed many files missing immediately after the latest updates.

No, I did not "verify files" because:

  1. I do not know how to "verify files"
  2. It is not the responsibility of the customer to "verify" that software updates completed successfully, it is the responsibility of the people who push software updates out.

I am a retired software developer, which is why I enjoy testing your game software and reporting issues so you can identify and fix them to make the game better than it already is.  As a software developer, we tested, tested, then tested again before we pushed updates to our software.  We didn't just test on our developer machines, we had a test environment where we tested updates from our last 3 versions to make sure the upgrade would work correctly.  Then, when we did push to the production environment, we started with a few machines used by "friendly" users to make sure the update would work in the production environment before we pushed the updates in waves to the full production environment.

The packages that performed the updates did the following:

  1. verify that the software could be installed or updated (versions, space, etc.)
  2. installed or updated the software
  3. verified that the installation or update completed successfully (files, versions, checksums, registry entries, etc,)
  4. reported the results of the installation or update to a central database so that we could quickly identify issues

Finally, I am not mad that you asked, but I am disappointed that you would put the onus on the customer for verifying that your upgrade worked properly.  I would think that, after the number of upgrade "whoopsies" you have had in the last year, someone in management would have said "enough"!

Hello Paul! This issue has not been reported by anyone else, but ill be sure to share it regardless. In my personal experience I believe what ghost is suggesting is a steam side issue. Ive experienced this myself in other games I've played, when updates go up for a game, sometimes things go wrong on the steam side, and verifying files through steam often fixes them. If you would like to attempt this while we look into the situation the directions are as follows:

1) right click the game in your steam library

2) Select Properties...

3) Select Installed Files

4) Verify file integrity

This process has helped me in multiple games on steam that lie outside of content in the update itself, and may be of assistance to you too. But that doesn't dismiss the possibility it could be an internal game issue. Ill pass things along and see if theres any follow up, please keep me posted

RammaStardock,

I access the game through Epic, not Steam.  As shown in the first screen snapshot below, when I right-click on the game there is no "Verify" option, but if I click on the "Manage" option, the screen shown in the second screen snapshot appears and it does have a "Verify Files" option.

I clicked on the "Verify" button and it went through some process that went from 0% to 100% then said "Installing files", then apparently finished because it now says "Launch" under the game title.

By the way, I deleted my new custom civilization and started over from scratch and, so far, it seems to be sticking with my choices.

Thank you for clarifying, now im left wondering if the verification fixed the issue, the deleting of the custom civs or the mix of the two.

I started a game right after recreating my new custom civilization and, as shown in the first screen snapshot below, it correctly created all Luxar citizens.  I then exited the game and verified my files as described above.  When I went back into the game and chose to create a new game and then chose the option to edit my custom civilization, it put my citizens back to being Drath as shown in the second screen snapshot below.

I am an experienced player and I am not crazy - the game is changing the type of citizens for my custom civilization from whatever I select (I chose the Luxar, but I have tried others with the same result) to the Drath.

Here are some more screen snapshots to prove my point.

The first screen snapshot shows that the citizens for my custom civilization are Luxar (lower-left).  This is what appears when I select my custom civilization at the start of a new game.

When I select the "Edit" button to make changes to my custom civilization and then go to the "Abilities" tab, the second screen snapshot shows that the Drath are now the selected citizens.

My custom race also turned citizens  into Drath.  I reset to 'human' citizens and started a new game also.

I trust and believe you Paul, I know you're an incredibly knowledgeable player, its good to see zichella echoing this issue confirming its more likely an internal bug, if either of you have a save file of a before and after this transformation it could definitely help. Ill be communicating this asap

I was able to replicate this and got a different citizen race every time I hit edit on a custom race not just Drath, interesting

First off, I believe this is a player replying to you NOT support. So it is not HIS update. On steam it is easy. Go to the Game screen. As you see the screen on the right corner you should see a cog icon. Click that and then click Properties. A Panel appears. You want to click the 3rd selection and the 3rd selection on that too. Should say something like "verify files integrity...." or something. Might take some time.

If you have it on Epic, not sure but it should be something similar. Or some plattforms have it in Options. Check around your software. It really isn't that hard.

[Edit] Ah, I see this was answered already. Ok then.

And btw, could this have something to do with the "attempting to link a citizen type to your selected civ"(I quoted but not sure if this is the exact wording) new ACGPT feature?
