Same old stardock stuff... Object bar...

Hi, well after having had some improved experiences of desktopX - though there still seems to be a way to go before it approaches perfection - I decided to give object bar a go too.

I chose a Mac OSX Jaguar 10.3 theme and hoped for the best. Unfortunately I was severly dissapointed.

As usual object bar is unable to render itself in the corect position/orientation on my screen. Being an imitation of a mac task bar, I need to have it running along the top of my screen.

However what I have found is that sometimes it can do this, while other times it leaves about a quarter inch gap between it and the top of the screen, while on still other occasions it overlaps internet explorer. In other instances it at least makes a stab at consistancy and can attach itself to the top of the screen, however it then inserts a quarter inch gap between itself and IE, so that IE can no longer fully function in full screen mode.

The last time I tried Stardock products I had the same problems - and that was over about a year ago now. I had rather hoped they had overcome these glitches in the mean time. Clearly they have not.

Is there some way I can tell this dumb thing what its absolute position should always be and to not deviate from this. I have tried just choosing 'docking' 'dock to the top edge of the screen', but this has had no real effect. As I said, sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.

Any input anyone can offer would therefore be very much appreciated.

I would suggest contact Stardock and submitting a true bug report (with the OS that you are running, version of Object Bar, video card, etc.)

Hover your mouse cursor over the bar, press and hold the ctrl button and you can move the entire bar wherever you need it.

That isn't what ObjectBAR does, is it? I think you are looking for ObjectDOCK, maybe?

If you are using DesktopX, you can make your own taskbar and place it wherever you want without using another app, as well.

Statements like that are really annoying. You don't offer suggestions, you have no intention of reporting a bug, you just sling some mud at the software and go on. I find DesktopX to be pretty basically flawless for what it is designed to do. Of course I know how to use it, and don't rely on other people's themes.

Unfortunatly, end-users often lay the blame for bugs on DesktopX, instead of the real culprit, poorly created themes.

Ahh shut up, I haven't got the energey to fight with you, or to read everything you wrote. I just reported an issue I was having with object bar - and hoped someone might have some useful suggestions. I guess that counts you out.

I have every right to be unhappy, as I said, this same issue was present over a year ago. Are you really saying no one at Stardock has noticed it in all this time? I reported a bug then. Do you blame me for feeling that I might be wasting my time doing so again?

As for desktopX. I don't care how much you are in love with it, it remains true that it is still really quite fiddly and/or involved to configure.

To be frank, I would really rather have desktopX be a tad less intrusive - by for example, leaving all my standard Windows right click options in place - and also retaining the ease with which Windows Icons can be made and manipulated.

I bought dektopx to help build a friendly desktop for my 9 year old daughter. Unfortunately what has resulted is something that, while undoubtedly very pretty, is really probably quite alien - and if anything is harder to use than the original desktop.

Now if that doesn't meet your standards for constuctive criticism, I don't know what else I can do.

I have been running ObjectBar since I discovered it and haven't had any of the problems mentioned in the original post. I find it to be a useful, adaptable and stable piece of software. The only bugs I have encountered are with some of the plug-ins which tend to make it crash, so I don't use them. I have had OB taskbars at both top and bottom of the screen with no problems.

Have you tried fiddling with the 'reserve screen space' options in OB config?
