Known issues

While we appreciate all feedback, please remember that we offer no official support for beta \ preview \ developer channel versions of Windows. If you report issues while in any of those early release channels, you should not expect them to be addressed unless it still exists in a retail version of Windows.

So far here's what I've found.

1. The translucent drop target is still not dismissed until several seconds (10+) later.

2. The "Save Group" menu item is working correctly now. I would still like to see groupy just auto save size/pos and tabs. It should be enough to simply add another window and then close the group or at least add a shortcut key to "Update Group" or something similar.

2a. After adding a new tab using the "Show only one combined button" mode and then clicking "Save Group" I end up with a combined button as well as individual buttons for the tabs. This does not appear to happen with the "Show only active window" option.

3. Thank you VERY much for allowing integrated tabs to close the whole group via the close button. It was the only thing keeping me from using tabs integrated into the caption.

4. With tabs on top maximizing then restoring a group causes the tab bar to disappear. clicking the taskbar button restores it.

I'll give it a proper run when I get some more free time.

I tried replicating these two and wasn't able to. Are you able to record a video of you replicating them?

The issue I reported in https://forums.stardock.com/520936/page/1/#3894372 is still an issue with Groupy2.1 Beta.

With the OS transparency option disabled, the background bar colors don't behave as expected.

Hey Team Stardock. As in another post in this forum ( REPLY 31 | https://forums.stardock.com/520796/page/2/#3894268 ), the bug is also present in Groupy 2.1 Beta (see pictures).

As soon as the explorer window is maximized and a new tab is added, the explorer window automatically shrinks and Groupy 2 slips out of the explorer. It would also be really great if the Groupy 2 bar wasn't so compressed when the explorer window is maximized ( See Picture ):

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The next topic is not a bug more a cosmetic problem. In the pictures, Groupy 2 is attached as an additional frame on the file explorer above. As soon as the file explorer window is maximized, the Groupy2 additional frame becomes smaller and there is a pixel gap between Groupy2 and the file explorer (see picture with the red circle). This does not happen when maximizing to half the screen.

My System: Windows 10 Pro, Version 22H2 (Build 19045.3086).

Confirmed the tasbar button seperation has been fixed. I still have the issue with the bar and tabs vanishing on min/max/restore but I suspect a different culprit. One that will likely require me to format so I can't do it right now. Hopefully later today.

Quick response time on this one thanks guys. :congrat:

EDIT:

On a side note I occasionally get an explorer crash when closing a group. It appears to happen on larger groups of 5 or more and for groups that use programs with startup delay times sometimes it will open 2 groups with the tabs splits between them.

To even begin to know if that is related to Groupy at all, we would need dumps from it.  This is for Start11 but the same process applies:

Yeah I do plan on doing a dump however I'm going to try a format. I have some other major issues that require it. In fact it's so bad even system restore is broken. It is quite possible that's the problem here with groupy as well. I only mentioned it in case others has experienced it as well.

I'll keep you informed on how it goes.

The drop target window still has issues. It almost always doesn't get dismissed properly. This happens around 70% of the time.

Freshly formatted Windows 11 22621.1928 Latest Groupy beta. This was displayed for about 3 minutes long after I closed the group.

We have had no luck reproducing this and have no other reports of this.

Have you altered any Groupy settings or Windows settings and what other apps have been installed as there must be something else involved as well.

I considered that as well. However after a format I'm still getting it. I'm also not sure what other programs could cause it but I do have quite a bit. I will try playing with removing things to see if it helps.

I'm also not sure what settings I could change other than appearance ones. For groupy I use top tabs with the combined button setting and also turn off integrating with explorer and notepad. I use the hold shift and full window drop options.

As for window settings where does one begin? Of course I change many settings but I can't see how it would affect this. Such as retore folders after restart and show file extensions.

While I'm sure it's something on my machine I have no idea what. Guess I'll mess around a bit.

EDIT:

So I set drag/drop grouping to Always group windows when moved on top of each other and "Only group if the window has been held for at least one second" and I haven't see it happen yet. However I did get an explorer crash while tearing out one of the tabs. I have yet to install WinDBG yet however.

While a clean boot helps to showcase it could be a setting \ 3rd party app:?

Using the Windows Sandbox will remove all doubt:

I will give this a try however I typically use VMWare as apposed to sandbox. I think I have discovered a mitigation however I edited me previous post.

So after doing a clean boot I still have the same problem however it only happens when using the "Only while shift key is pressed" option. If I set it to "Always group" and "... held above for at least one second" options It doesn't happen.

As a side note the GroupyStart.bat file failed with an error about no devices that use it ... I simply reendabled Only the groupy service in msconfig and rebooted again.

It does seem the issue is related to the usage of any modifiers. the shift, ctrl, and right mouse button options all do it. when set to always group it works fine.

I tried each option 50 times each with group counts of 2, 4, and 10. In both standard and clean boot modes and the results were consistent.

While I would like a screenshot \ video of the error, if a clean boot was done properly, it would shut down the Groupy service.  The only error one would see is if the service was already started.  This is my test:

Let me know from my video below, if I am doing something different in trying to recreate your issue. (Using the Shift option)

Sure thing the first snap is of msconfig prior to rebooting. the second is after reboot and running the batch file.

Try dropping it on restored windows and after the drop grab and move the window. The drop target is revealed (behind the group) at that point. Ill make a new video but youtube takes a minute

EDIT: here's a video not sure if it's available yet

Thanks, I got it to reproduce the first two times I tried it (but the effect did not last very long), but never again in several dozen attempts.  At what frequency does this happen for you?

It occurs almost every time. The duration varies however. usually it's only a couple of seconds but once in a while it can hang for a few minutes. Even had enough time to close the group and watch it for about 2 minutes. Again to note it does not happen (for me) if I'm not using any modifiers and just have it set to group while hovering for more than a second option set.
