Unable to create a shortcut

When I create a shortcut it doesn't show up on the Desktop. For clarity and to be sure I'm using understandable terminology, "create the shortcut" means right-clicking the folder or file in Windows File Explorer and choosing "create a shortcut" from the drop-down list. To confirm that it does or doesn't "show up on the Desktop", I view the desktop by clicking the Windows Start button+D. I also view in File Explorer the "file" at ‪C:\Users\pwric\Desktop.

I have many shortcut on the desktop, so it's possible--probable even--that I simply don't spot the new shortcut. (Although, wouldn't it be listed in the Desktop "file"?) So, I'm asking whether there is a way to predict where a new shortcut will be created?

I've been using Fences for several years and I've probably created many new shortcuts, so it's puzzling why I would encounter a problem now.

Thanks for your help,

Hello,
Sorry to hear you are having issues. Need to know  you on Windows 10 or Windows 11? Also need its full version number. Use Winver.exe. Need Fences version numbers too.

Also, from my observation. Create shortcut will create a shortcut inside that same folder where the file you right click on. Unless a popup message come up and said it cannot create a shortcut in that folder and ask if you wanted the shortcut on your desktop. If there is no popup msg. It will only be created inside that folder itself. You can than move it to where ever you wish.

Thanks

That solves the problem!!!

Not saying that isn't simple enough, but does Fences offer an option or setting to move a new shortcut to the Desktop automatically?

Thanks for you help,

Sorry, there is no such feature available in Fences.

Thank you,

I'd like to suggest  to your Development Manager that it be included in an upcoming release.

Creating shortcuts in File Explorer does not automatically send them to the desktop, it is made in that folder
