"Apprentice" Access?

Lately, I have been hearing a lot about people with "Apprentice" access. I like to think I contribute the best I can. Frankly, the idea of creating a skin scares the hell out of me. I would have to learn how to use some type of graphics program and that's only the begining.

Without being able to create skins, I do the only thing I can to contribute. Spend money. I try to buy as much as I can from skinners, from Stardock, and from Wincustomize. When the servers went down I had lots of skins I could have helped upload and would have enjoyed being able to help. But, without "Apprentice" access I wasn't able to contribute more.

I have been a Wincustomize user from it's inception. I have been an ODNT user since way back. I have 3 questions: Can you only gain "Apprentice" access by making some type of skin? What will that type of Access gain for me? What is the easiest skin to create?

The easiest skin to create are Bootskins in my opinion. However, that depends on whether or not you make the original artwork for the main image or you have the help from a second party, like I do.

For now, I'm having quiet a bit of fun making bootskins, but I would like to start with Windowblinds, but I must do some research first.

Here is a link that explains the Apprentice qualifications.
When I made my first WB skin, I had no idea what I was doing. But I played around with skin studio and my paint shop pro and learned how to use both. That was 3/2003. Today I have 18 skins posted on this sight, and three that I have taken down, and over 91,000 downloads. Im far from being as good as "the classic skinners", but I love to keep practicing and learning. If you're interested in skinning, don't let it scare you. Give it a try. You can use any paint program (even MS paint). There are a lot of free half-way decent graphics programs you can download, you just have to search. You will also need skin studio, which you should already have access to being a OD customer. And I agree, the easiest skin to start with would be a bootskin. Good luck
