I just updated to Start11 Version 1.41 on my PC running Windows 11 Pro Version 22H2 (OS Build 22621.1265). I am using the Windows 7 Style menu with the Windows 7 Style substyle.
As has been the case since Version 1.36, when I right-click on the Start Menu, on any item in the Start Menu, or on the Taskbar, the context menu displays with a black background. This is not the way that Start11 worked on Windows 11 from October 10, 2021 until the update to Version 1.36. And that's not the way it previously worked in Start10 and Start8 on those respective versions of Windows. For that matter, it is not the way the Windows 7 menu structure worked.
It appears to me that, with Version 1.36, the Start11 code was modified to pick the background color based on the Default Windows Mode setting found in Settings > Personalization > Colors. As has been the case at least since I upgraded to Windows 11, I have the overall Color Mode set to Custom and the Default Windows Mode set to Dark. Microsoft requires those settings to enable the option to turn on Show Accent Color on Start and Taskbar. That is an option I've had on since Windows 7, if not earlier.
Other problems reported since Version 1.36 may well have a higher priority for correction. Still, I’d like to see Start11 display context menus for Start Menu items the way they were prior to Version 1.36, and as they were in Start 10, Start 8, and Windows 7 itself.
If the intent of the change in Version 1.36 was to make a dark background an available option, ideally it should be a configuration setting in Start11. Alternatively, if it is to be based on the Windows Personalization settings, it should only be put into effect if the overall Color Mode is set to Dark or the Default App Mode is set to Dark.
