Folder Icon in Start11 All Apps section vs. Windows 10 Start Menu

IconPackager 10.0.3 Folder not picked up by Start11 All Apps

Start11 All Apps section in Windows 10 Style does not pick up the folders chosen in IconPackager, whereas the Windows 10 Start Menu does.

The Start11 Windows 7 and Modern Styles do pick up the correct folder icon, where the Windows 10 and Windows 11 Styles do not.

Does Start11 pick up the folder icon from a different location than the Windows 10 menu? Is there a way to correct this by making a change in the Registry?

Hello,
Sorry to hear you are having issues. But, why you post two threads on the same issue?

Thanks

I wasn’t sure if this was an IconPackager or Start11 issue so I posted on both forums to be safe.

Windows 10 pro build 19045.2310, Start11 ver. 1.31

Here is the Folder Setting in IconPackager.

and here are the Start11 Menus for the Windows 7 and Modern Styles which pick up the correct folder icon from IP.

(Start11 Windows 7 and Modern Styles below)

So, the native Windows 10 Start Menu, Start11 Windows 7 Style, and Start11 Modern Style all pick up the correct icon for the folder specified in IP, but the Start11 Windows 10 and Windows 11 Styles do not.

(Start11 Windows 10 and windows 11 Styles below)

I know this must have something to do with the way Windows 10 and windows 11 Start Menus handle folders differently than Windows 7 and 8, but that doesn't explain why the native Windows 10 Start menu picks up the correct icon from IP.

This is not really a big deal, but annoying none the less.

Thank you for your attention.

Are you sure the Win10 menu is really using your icon?

I ask as tests here have shown it uses a fixed icon which does not change with IP.  Is it possible your current folder icon is simply close to the MS default?

We have made changes for the next Start11 build which should fix the Win10/11 style menus.

I am running Windows 10 and the folder that appears in the native Windows 10 Start menu is the default for Windows 11. It is not the default for Windows 10. I don't know if it is being picked up from IconPackager or somewhere else in the OS.

I do have the OS set to show thumbnails on files, but have show thumbnails on folders disabled using the following Registry key.

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\Local Settings\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Shell\Bags\AllFolders\Shell

"Logo"="d:\\somefile.jpg"

Fixed in 1.32. The correct folders are now displayed in the All Apps section of the Windows 10 Style menu.

Thanks
