Stop Fences Opening pdfs

I recently updated Fences and now whenever I click on a pdf in a fence it opens within the Fence itself, as if it were a folder, not as a separate document.

I am unable to find a setting that will turn this off - is there one?

Hello,
Sorry to hear you are having issues. Never seen this issue before. Need more information on your system.

  1. You on Windows 7,8,10 or 11? Also need to know its full version number. Use Winver.exe to get those.
  2. You on Fences 4.0.7.2?
  3. What PDF reader/writer you set to open on your system?
  4. Can you post a video capture of this happening?

Thanks

Hi Basj,

Windows 11 Version 21H2 (OS Build 22000.856)

Fences 4.0.7.2

Adobe Acrobat CS

I don't have any screen recording software installed but this is a Before and After screen shot. If you really need a recording then I can install one, but this works, I think.
Once the file is opened, clicking on the top left arrow - as if going up a folder level - takes me back to the original Fence.

This happens with every pdf in this Fence, but not in other Fences, and if I move a pdf which opens normally from another Fence into this Fence it no longer opens normallyBefore and After

Can you try rename that fence to something else other that "2_Transfer.." try remove the "_". I learned that Fences sometimes don't like to use those special characters" within its name. Try those and report back.

Thank you,

I deleted the original fence, renamed the folder without the "_" character and created a new fence - it has made no difference

I don't have Adobe Acrobat CS to test your issue out. My pdf reader always open a new windows when double click within the Portal Fences. Have you try un-tick Allow navigation and see if that solve it.

Thanks

You can uncheck "Allow Navigation", but then you can't navigate folders. I had this same issue and checked #3 in this troubleshooting FAQ and it solved the issue while still allowing navigation in portals. https://forums.stardock.com/486084/fences-support-faq#PortalNavFix

For some reason, everytime I do a windows update, this setting resets to the checked state & for Fences to work properly, it needs to be unchecked. See step #3 https://forums.stardock.com/486084/fences-support-faq#PortalNavFix

from hamburger menu on folder portal title — select/check "Allow navigation"

 Allow Navigation in Folder Portal

under folder options "General" tab — select/check "Open each folder in the same window" & click Apply

Open each folder in the same window

under folder options "View" tab — unselect/uncheck "Launch folder windows in a separate process" & click Apply

Launch folder windows in a separate process

Confirmed . . . did another Windows Update today and the checkbox next to "Launch folder windows in a separate process" became checked again. I unchecked it, applied changes, and problem solved — just one of those things I have to do every time I update (once a month).
