Shift underlying icons automatically

Wishful thinking

One thing I really would like to have Fences do is if I move a fence over existing icons, move them out of the way automatically.

If Windows/I add a shortcut to the desktop or a program creates a shortcut on the desktop screen, sometimes it appears or not as the case may be, under an existing Fence.

It would be really good to have the fence(s) kick other solitary icons out of the way. (So I can find them)

Too much to ask for?

Currently on 4.0.0.3

Installing 4.0.5.21

Hi Paul,

Yes that's the idea.

I thought that it was already part of Fences but despite looking I could not 'see' the appropriate setting, is it implemented?

Yes it is, my video was from Fences4 on my work machine. There is no setting for it, it should work by default

Do you have some other "desktop management" software installed that could be interfering with it?

Hi Paul,

It did not work as wanted on the original install of Windows 10 and yes that did have desktop management programs installed.

I have now installed a clean copy of HP Windows 11 workstation, 64 bit

Programs installed are as in the document saved in my dropbox, link here - easier than trying to type them all in

Hope this is of use?

Do you have Auto Arrange Icons turned off? on the desktop? (Right-click desktop, View)

Hi Paul

Thanks I did have auto arrange turned off.#

Turned on and indeed it works as you showed on your screen view.

One downside is the system now groups my other icons/shortcuts where it decides, the left hand side in a column, even though I have turned off align to a grid, although that does nothing anyway that I can see.

I suppose gaining one thing I have to put up with another, but at least it makes me create new fences groups etc.

Thanks for the help here

Mike

Hello,
Sorry to hear you are having issues. Would like to suggest to create a new fence and set it Fences rule for it. Set it so that all new icons that come into desktop is send there. This will then be your temporary area where all new thing will reside. You can then move it to any other fences of you choice.

Thanks
